Job description

Senior Mobile Software Engineer

Android & iOS

A senior mobile engineer who owns Picarro's mobile experience - field-facing companion apps that connect to physical instruments and the cloud/data platform. This role requires the same product-engineering-driven mindset as our other engineering roles: prototype fast, ship reliable software, and own it in production, with the added constraint of building for field conditions such as intermittent connectivity, outdoor/industrial use, and hardware pairing.

Responsibilities
  • Design and build native or cross-platform mobile applications for Android and iOS that pair with Picarro instruments and integrate with the cloud/data platform.
  • Own offline-first and sync architecture for field use, where connectivity is not guaranteed and data integrity matters.
  • Handle device-level integrations such as Bluetooth/BLE, sensor pairing, and background data collection where relevant.
  • Use AI-assisted development tooling to prototype and iterate quickly on UI and integration work.
  • Own mobile app reliability and performance in production, including crash rates, sync failures, battery/data usage, and root-cause fixes.
  • Partner with backend/platform engineers to define APIs and contracts that work well under field constraints.
  • Mentor other engineers on mobile architecture and platform-specific best practices.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of mobile engineering experience, with production apps shipped on Android and/or iOS using native Swift/Kotlin or a cross-platform framework such as React Native or Flutter, with a clear rationale for the choice.
  • Real experience with offline-first architecture and data sync patterns.
  • Experience integrating with hardware/sensors via Bluetooth or similar protocols is a strong plus.
  • Comfortable owning a mobile app's full lifecycle, including architecture, release process, monitoring, and production issues.
  • Experience using AI coding assistants in a professional workflow.
  • Background building software as a core product at a software product company, R&D lab, or technology-first organization, rather than internal IT, retail/e-commerce technology operations, or IT services/consulting shops that primarily implement or customize other companies' software.
Nice to Have
  • A public GitHub or similar portfolio showcasing real project work is a strong plus.
  • Experience building apps for field service, industrial, scientific, or instrumentation use cases.
  • Familiarity with the same cloud/data platform stack used by the backend team, enabling smoother API collaboration.
  • Cross-platform architecture experience, including shared business logic across Android and iOS.

The base salary range for this full-time position is $150K to $170K. Our total compensation package includes base salary, bonus eligibility, and equity.
