Job Description Summary

The Nationwide Insurance investment organizations manage insurance company general account assets as well as non-general account assets. The Client Advisory Services - Business Partnership team is responsible for client portfolio management including: client communications, client reporting, business development, portfolio analysis, cash flow monitoring, investment solution design, advisory services, and cross-enterprise special projects. The team serves as the bridge between our investment process and portfolio managers and clients, both internal and external to Nationwide. The team works closely with other areas of the company, including Compliance, Legal, Treasury, Finance, and Controllership in support of Nationwide's general account portfolios.
The Senior Investment Professional focuses on managing relationships with our largest and most complex client portfolios.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes significant judgement on moderate to complex portfolio and/or client matters. Works independently and infrequently requires guidance on more complex judgements. Accountable for multiple processes or programs. Has expertise in client management, communications, and organizational relationships.

  • Demonstrates a broad knowledge of more than one discipline as a senior individual contributor of the of the team. Provides support and guidance to junior members of the team. Provides strategic contributions to Enterprise Portfolio Management.

  • Manages day-to-day relationship and communication with clients/business partners.

  • Interacts with Enterprise Portfolio Management and Asset Class Managers to understand tactical and strategic objectives.

  • Effectively partners with other units within Investments and across the Company in support of achieving Investments and Company objectives.

  • Works with clients and the investment team to identify solutions/opportunities to help clients achieve objectives/goals.

  • Coordinates and completes monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad-hoc client reporting.

  • Collects data and completes surveys and questionnaire requests.

  • Creates high quality client presentations and delivers/presents institutional quality presentations.

  • Serves as moderator for client meetings.

  • Develops new content for reporting and presentations.

  • Facilitates and edits asset class presentations for client audience.

  • Defines and builds processes to improve efficiency of investment analysis and reporting.

  • Conducts analysis of positional and transactional portfolio data.

  • Reviews performance results and financial objectives.

  • Understands client-based objectives and constraints by partnering with associates across Investments.

  • Monitors portfolio positioning relative to client-based guidelines.

  • Assists portfolio managers in understanding impact of portfolio changes relative to guidelines.

  • Drafts portfolio commentary for client reporting.

  • Leads investment guideline revisions as needed and communicates changes to all affected parties.

  • Monitors daily cash flow forecasts to understand changes and potential issues; researches questions and issues.

  • Maintains registered investment adviser books and records.

  • Supports other projects and activities as needed to meet department objectives.

  • Problem solves complex matters and evaluates new requirements independently

  • Mentors more junior members of the team

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Senior Investment Professional or Investment Leader

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in finance or quantitative field. Master's Degree and/or CFA designation preferred.

Experience: 8-12 years of experience in investments, accounting or finance and/or previous insurance company experience. Client relationship management experience in a financial services setting is preferred.
