Job description

Position Overview

The paraeducator provides instructional, behavioral, and supervision support to students under the direction of a certified teacher. This role is essential in helping create a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where all students can succeed.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Instructional Support — Assist students with classwork, reinforce lessons, support literacy and math activities, and help implement accommodations or IEP goals.
  2. Behavioral Support — Support positive behavior strategies, redirect off-task behavior, and help maintain a calm, structured classroom.
  3. Student Supervision — Monitor students during recess, lunch, transitions, arrival/dismissal, and other non-instructional periods.
  4. Personal Care Assistance — Depending on assignment, assist with toileting, feeding, mobility, or medical needs.
  5. Classroom Operations — Prepare materials, organize supplies, set up learning activities, and support classroom routines.
  6. Collaboration — Communicate effectively with teachers, specialists, and families while maintaining confidentiality.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. High school diploma or equivalent (some districts require an associate degree or paraprofessional certification).
  2. Ability to follow teacher direction and support instructional strategies.
