Job description

Position Overview The Montgomery County Engineer's Office is seeking a qualified and safety-conscious Bridge Inspector to support the inspection, evaluation, and maintenance of county bridge and culvert infrastructure. This position plays a critical role in ensuring public safety through compliance with federal and state bridge inspection standards, accurate condition assessments, and detailed documentation of structural assets. Summary of Job Duties Conduct inspections of bridges and culvert structures in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS), Specification for National Bridge Inventory (SNBI), and ODOT Manual of Bridge Inspection and Inventory.

Evaluate structural conditions and assign condition ratings. Identify and document safety concerns, deficiencies, and maintenance needs. Prepare inspection reports and maintain detailed records of infrastructure conditions.

Develop work orders for required repairs and maintenance activities. Collect measurements and field data for bridge management systems. Maintain and update bridge inventory and inspection databases.

Review and process special hauling and load permits. Perform related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications and Requirements High school diploma or GED.

Qualified as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader under National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS); or Individuals possessing a combination of bridge inspection, design, maintenance, or construction experience applicable to becoming a Team Leader may be considered. Preferred Certifications and Licenses FHWA NHI - Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges (FHWA-NHI-130055) or Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers (FHWA-NHI-130056) . OSHA Confined Space Training.

Certified Bridge Climbing/Rope Access Training. Valid Driver's License. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of bridge inspection principles, regulations, and standards.

Ability to interpret engineering plans and construction drawings. Strong recordkeeping, reporting, and database management skills. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and safely in field environments. Physical Requirements Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, and walking. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying weather conditions.
