Vice President of Social, National, COURIER

Remote (U.S.-based) | Full-Time | Starting at $120k annually

Our eleven local newsrooms and national brand provide Americans with news centered on the people and policies that affect their lives. Our reporting is primarily produced for social media platforms and online channels where our audiences spend their time, with an emphasis on video, graphics, and skimmable newsletters to inform and engage our audience in the ways they consume information today.

Responsibilities
  • Steer COURIER National brand’s editorial and digital engagement strategy across all relevant social media platforms to achieve audience reach, engagement, acquisition, and online fundraising goals.
    • Direct content creation (graphics and video) informed by COURIER editorial drumbeats, including brainstorming new ideas and managing projects from concept to completion.
    • Closely monitor current events to create relevant social content that aligns with COURIER’s editorial priorities.
  • Identify and establish media-sharing partnerships with content creators, mission-aligned organizations, celebrities, and influential social personalities to expand audience reach, content distribution, and growth opportunities.
  • Direct national social content, talent-led social products, and collaborative partnerships.
  • Track, analyze and report on social KPIs, providing actionable recommendations to improve performance based on data findings.
  • Test and optimize social content, publishing and distribution strategies to improve results.
  • Drive measurable audience conversion from social platforms to COURIER’s newsletters, podcasts, web shows, and other owned products.
  • Lead COURIER National’s marketing efforts, in coordination with HQ support staff.
    • Create and maintain a regular social marketing calendar, promoting COURIER’s national products (newsletters, web shows, podcasts, etc.) with measurable growth and engagement results.
  • Lead and develop National social team, staff, establishing clear expectations and accountability, while serving as a mentor.
  • Send bi-weekly round-ups of national content to COURIER’s marketing list.
  • Manage independent social contractors.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in social content curation and creation.
  • A political expert with a strong understanding of the national and gubernatorial political landscape and the ability to quickly and accurately break down the news.
  • Strong background in political content creation, with preference for candidates with newsroom, campaign, advocacy organization, or PAC experience.
  • Graphic design experience (required for this role).
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in social video publishing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for design.
  • Video editing skills are not required but preferred.
Compensation and benefits
  • The annual salary for this role starts at $120,000.
