Description
Parks and Recreation Department is seeking a Parks Services Worker to work weekends.
This position work schedule totals 16 hours and successful candidate will be required to work every weekend 7am - 3pm or 3pm - 11pm.
Performs day-to-day duties in support of Parks & Recreation facilities, properties, and programs.
Assists the Facilities and Recreation Supervisors in his or her duties and supports the rental, maintenance and/or use and custodial care of Division facilities, properties, and shared-use sites.
Assists by providing support to a variety of recreational programs
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIITIES Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
  • Monitors and assists in the rental and use of Parks and Recreation managed (or shared) parks and facilities (including, but not limited to: Grove Street, the Aviary, athletic fields, classrooms, community centers, community market, gyms, meeting space, pool, shared-use sites, shelters, stadium, trails, and/or other sites);
  • Provides support services and supervision of recreational programs including, but not limited to open gym program, athletic programs, Market operations;
  • Assists instructors and departmental staff in providing recreational programs;
  • Assist partners and other City agencies in evaluating and/or monitoring athletic field conditions or providing field prep and/or marking;
  • Responsible for the completion and posting of Facility Use Permits and other documents as needed;
  • Provide custodial services at park properties, shared-use sites, and facilities as needed;
  • Provides service delivery (table setup, room prep, etc.) in conjunction with facility rental or usage, classes, meetings, programs, and/or other events;
  • Receives and receipts money, preparing financial reports in conjunction with facility rental, program delivery, instructional classes or other activities as needed;
  • Performs periodic heavy cleaning (buffing, mopping, pressure washing, etc.) as needed;
  • Inspects facilities with Risk Management, Parks and Recreation, and Buildings and Grounds staff, ensuring compliance with safety and maintenance standards;
  • Directs facility support services, including set up and breakdown of Departmental activities;
  • Provides support for parking at special events and facility rentals/use as needed;
  • Conducts and/or participates in park security roves and works with other City agencies to promote park safety and security as necessary;
  • Collects and/or compiles forms and associated paperwork as needed;
  • Acts as a point of public contact during programs, facility use, community market activities, park roves, special events, or other parks & recreation supported activities;
  • Regular and punctual attendance is required;
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
  • Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
  • When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service delivery.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Education and Experience Required
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required. Some experience in the rental, maintenance and/or use and care of facilities and properties.

  • Valid Virginia's Drivers License and acceptable driving record according to
  • CPR/General First-Aid Certification required within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
