This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.
POSITION SPECIFICS
Dr. Mathias Martins is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar to join his research program in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at Penn State. The laboratory focuses on poultry viruses, with an emphasis on viral pathogenesis, diagnostic assay development, and vaccine development.
Responsibilities for this position include developing and implementing assays for viral detection, vaccine safety and immunogenicity, and the characterization of immune responses in chickens.
The postdoctoral scholar will lead and support studies in poultry, including experimental infections and vaccine trials.
Additional responsibilities include maintaining laboratory equipment, managing supplies, ensuring accurate recordkeeping, preparing scientific manuscripts, and mentoring students and junior laboratory personnel.
The postdoctoral scholar is expected to adhere to all biosafety, laboratory safety, and animal care protocols required by Penn State and relevant regulatory agencies.
Required Qualifications:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, and/or PhD in a related field, completed by the start date.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Experience in virology, including molecular and serological assays
  • Experience conducting animal experiments
  • Experience working in BSL-2/ABSL-2 and BSL-3/ABSL-3 facilities
