Applications will be accepted year-round. However, applications will be reviewed in groups, and passing candidates will be added to the continuous recruitment eligible list twice a year based on a process to commence subsequent to the filing deadlines of the last business day of July and the last business day of January.
NOTE: This process is explained in more detail in the Subjects of Examination portion of this examination announcement.
NOTE: The Commission reserves the right to alter any and all aspects of this examination program, including but not limited to, adding names to the list and re-filing and eligibility time frames.
Names of successful candidates will be certified on the eligible list in score order, regardless of when the application was rated. Names of successful candidates will be removed from the eligible list at the time of appointment to a full or part-time position or two years after being placed on the list.
Candidates may re-file for this examination one year after being placed on the list. However, a candidate can only have one score on the list. Only the candidate's higher score, whether it's the existing score or the newer score, will appear on the list. If a candidate's new score is higher, then the existing score will be removed from the list and the new score will be put on. The new score will remain until the candidate is appointed or two years transpire.
If the candidate's new score is lower than the existing score, then the existing score will remain on the list until the candidate is appointed or two years (from the original date of that score being added to the list) transpires. Once the existing, higher score is removed from the list, the newer, lower score will be added. The newer, lower score will remain on the list until the candidate is appointed or two years (from the date that application was rated) transpires.

SUBJECTS OF EXAMINATION: This examination will consist of two parts:
1. A rated evaluation of training and experience and;
2. A qualifying Spanish language oral proficiency test. You must pass both tests in order to be eligible for appointment. Only your rating on the evaluation of training and experience will be considered when computing final scores.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
There will be no written test for this examination. If you meet the minimum qualifications, you will receive a rating based upon an evaluation of your training and experience against the duties of the position being tested.
Candidates must first complete an online examination application and electronically submit it to the Nassau County Civil Service Commission.
Applications will be reviewed twice a year as follows:

• Applications received by the last business day in July will be reviewed in August. Approved candidates will be sent a notice containing directions to a website address needed to complete a Training and Experience Questionnaire, which will be available September 1, and approved candidates will be required to complete and submit this questionnaire between September 1 and midnight, September 30. NOTE: Candidates may be credited with training and experience gained up to the date the Training and Experience Questionnaire was submitted.

NOTE: Passing candidates will be added to the continuous recruitment eligible list by the end of December.

• Applications received by the last business day of January will be reviewed in February. Approved candidates will be sent a notice containing directions to a website address needed to complete a Training and Experience Questionnaire. which will be available March 1, and approved candidates will be required to complete and submit this questionnaire between March 1 and midnight, March 31. NOTE: Candidates may be credited with training and experience gained up to the date the Training and Experience Questionnaire was submitted.

Note regarding resumes: Most resumes do not contain the detailed information needed to evaluate your experience. Therefore, the submission of a resume - which is not required - is a supplement to a fully completed application, not a substitute for it. To receive credit for a job, basic information such as employer's address, name and title of supervisor, hours in the work week, final salary, reason for leaving, etc. must be entered in the appropriate areas of the examination application.

THE LANGUAGE ORAL PROFICIENCY TEST is designed to evaluate the candidate's proficiency in the Spanish language, at the level appropriate for the position(s) being filled.
A level 2 proficiency in the above language is required to pass the qualifying oral proficiency test for this title. This is equivalent to having a working oral language proficiency with understandable, smooth expression at a conversational level of communication.
Only a sufficient number of candidates needed to fill the present vacancies will be called to take part in this qualifying portion of the examination. As additional vacancies occur, other candidates who were successful on the training and evaluation portion of the examination will be invited to take the qualifying oral test.
Candidates must pass both parts of this examination in order to be eligible for appointment. This Language Oral Proficiency test is held on a pass-fail basis.

GENERAL INFORMATION
1. APPLYING: Inquiries should be directed to the Executive Director, Nassau County Civil Service Commission. The Commission does not accept responsibility for non-delivery or delivery delays of emails due to issues with your email account. The Commission reserves the right to reject for lateness or to accept applications filed after the advertised filing period.
2. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: The burden of establishing qualifications to the satisfaction of the Commission shall be upon the applicant. For the purpose of meeting the training and experience requirement of any examination, no credits shall be given for any work experience which is determined by the Commission to have been gained or acquired in violation of the provisions of the Civil Service Law.
Where required, certificates, licenses, and military separation papers (DD214) must be submitted with your application. Proof of claimed education, (copy of your high school diploma, Military, GED, New York State or comparable Equivalency Diploma) may be required to be submitted with the application. If education beyond high school is required, official transcripts must be submitted directly to us by the school
College education is considered at the rate of 30 credits completed per year.
For open competitive qualifications only, paid experience, if other than on a full time basis will be prorated.
Volunteer experience may be accepted if verifiable, and the experience claimed must have been in a structured program. Documentation signed by an official of the agency indicating hours per week, level of work, etc. must be provided.
Where additional experience may be substituted for an academic degree/diploma, the interpretation of the note, generally, is that for a full substitution, the underlying educational requirement for a Master's degree must be a Bachelor's degree; for a Bachelor's degree, it must be a High School Diploma/High School Equivalency Diploma; for a High School Diploma, it must be satisfactory completion of tenth or eighth grade education, as appropriate.
3. THE EXAMINATION: The Commission reserves the right, after this announcement is issued, to subdivide the examination and/or require a specific passing mark in one or more of such subdivisions in order that a candidate be considered further for eligibility.
