Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Healthy Living Director, the Group Fitness Instructor leads group classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that promotes member wellness and engagement.

They are responsible for managing these functions in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals.
  • Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Keeps accurate class attendance records.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Required certifications: Basic Life Support/First Aid and Emergency Oxygen to be completed upon hire, national certification (ACE, NETA, AFAA, NASM) in group fitness instruction; or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise certification.
  • Certification in areas of expertise.
  • At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.
