This position is located onsite at the NASA Stennis Space Center, Mississippi.
Job Overview
The Environmental Technician supports custodial and facility cleaning operations at NASA Stennis Space Center (SSC). This role is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and orderly facilities in accordance with company, customer, safety, and contractual requirements.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
  • Perform custodial and janitorial services including cleaning hard floors, carpets, stairwells, elevators, entrances, restrooms, drinking fountains, glass surfaces, and common areas.
  • Empty trash and maintain cleanliness throughout assigned facilities and work areas.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and related custodial tools.
  • Secure assigned vehicles, equipment, and work areas at the end of each shift.
  • Follow established work schedules, work orders, and contract requirements.
  • Report safety concerns, operational issues, accidents, or equipment problems to supervision promptly.
  • Maintain compliance with all company, customer, safety, and environmental requirements while working on NASA property.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Mandatory:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience in janitorial, custodial, environmental services, or facility cleaning operations.
  • General knowledge of janitorial safety procedures and cleaning practices.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules and shift assignments as required.
  • Must maintain a valid Real ID driver's license.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen in order to obtain the required NASA badge.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required employment verification, background screening, drug testing, and badging documentation processes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Preferred:
  • Experience supporting government, NASA, or industrial facilities environments.
  • Experience operating commercial cleaning equipment or floor maintenance equipment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while following detailed instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, team-oriented environment.
  • Basic computer skills preferred.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in office, industrial, and operational facility environments.
  • Position requires frequent walking, standing, lifting, bending, and physical labor throughout the workday.
  • Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals, industrial equipment, and varying environmental conditions.

Physical Requirements:
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, push, and pull throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work overhead with loads up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs frequently.
  • Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to distinguish colors for safe handling and identification of cleaning materials and chemical containers.
  • Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods, including steel toe shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, and gloves.
  • Ability to tolerate extreme heat and cold conditions for extended periods.
