What are some common challenges nannies face when working with families, and how can these be managed effectively?

Nannies often encounter challenges such as adjusting to different parenting styles, managing expectations around discipline, and maintaining clear communication with parents. Navigating these situations requires adaptability, professionalism, and proactive communication—frequent check-ins and written updates can help ensure everyone is on the same page. Establishing clear boundaries and discussing routines early on also contribute to a positive and productive working relationship. Many nannies find that building trust with both children and parents is key to overcoming initial hurdles and creating a supportive environment.

What are nanny openings?

Nanny openings refer to available job positions where families or agencies are seeking to hire individuals to care for children in a private home setting. These roles typically involve supervising children, preparing meals, assisting with homework, organizing activities, and sometimes performing light housekeeping related to the children. Nanny openings can be full-time, part-time, live-in, or live-out, depending on the family's needs. Candidates are usually expected to have experience with children, strong references, and sometimes certifications in CPR or first aid.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a nanny?

To thrive as a Nanny, you need a solid understanding of child development, basic first aid, and prior childcare experience, often supported by certifications such as CPR and background checks. Familiarity with household management tools, scheduling apps, and safety systems is also valuable. Patience, strong communication, and adaptability are essential soft skills, as nannies must build trust and respond effectively to the needs of both children and parents. These skills ensure children’s safety, foster healthy development, and contribute to a positive, well-organized home environment.

Start Date: Daily/Weekly
Location: Varies on the Day to Day/Week to Week
Children: Varies on the Day to Day/Week to Week
Schedule: Fully Flexible / Create Your Own Hours! *Commitment: Minimum of 6 months*

Description:
Above & Beyond Nannies would love to chat with you about joining our Sitters on Site (SOS) Team!
We have openings right now, and if you love working with children and possess a fantastic work ethic, we think you could be a great fit!

This on-call role is a fantastic opportunity to build diverse experience with children of all ages, form meaningful bonds with repeat families, and maintain a completely flexible schedule that you control. It is perfect for anyone who needs high flexibility, has another job but wants extra hours on specific days, or is new to nannying and wants to build their resume!

Please Note: The SOS team is completely separate from ABN's permanent nanny placements and requires a minimum of a 6-month commitment. Additional paperwork and information will be required.

How the SOS Team Works
Our corporate partners offer their employees backup childcare hours as part of their benefits, and our SOS team staffs those shifts.
  • High Reliability Required: We are the last resort for these families. Once you accept a shift, you must complete it. These families are relying on their SOS nanny to be there in a pinch!
  • No Complex Duties: You simply care for and clean up after the children in their own homes. There are no transportation services, bathing children, or administering medications allowed.
  • The Autobook System: You customize your hours by entering the days/times you are available. When a shift comes in, our system scans for qualified caregivers within that travel distance and age-range capability, and automatically books you.
  • Manual Shifts: If the system cannot find an automatic match, the SOS management team will post them manually. These shifts are first-come, first-served on the SOS calendar.
(Our corporate partners pay a flat, non-negotiable rate of $19/hour—if we had any say in it, it would be more!)

Requirements to Join
  • MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE TO APPLY.
  • Commitment: Able to commit to the team for at least 6 months.
  • Reliable & Responsive: High accountability with accepted shifts and prompt communication.
  • Background Check: Must pass a background screening.
  • Certification: Active CPR and First Aid certification is required.
