What is a nanny assistant?

Nanny assistants are caregivers who provide support to primary nannies or parents in looking after children. Their responsibilities often include helping with daily routines, light household chores related to the children, meal preparation, and engaging children in activities. Nanny assistants may also accompany families on outings or assist with transportation to and from school or extracurricular activities. They typically work under the direction of a lead nanny or parent, contributing to a safe and nurturing environment for the children. The role can vary based on the family's needs and the age of the children involved.

How does a nanny assistant typically collaborate with parents and primary caregivers to support a child's daily routine?

A Nanny Assistant works closely with parents and primary caregivers by maintaining open communication about the child’s schedules, preferences, and any special instructions. They often coordinate on daily routines such as meal times, school pick-ups, and extracurricular activities to ensure consistency and support the child’s well-being. Regular check-ins and feedback sessions help the Nanny Assistant adjust their approach to better align with the family’s expectations, making teamwork and adaptability essential in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a nanny assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Nanny Assistant, you need experience in child care, basic first aid knowledge, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with scheduling apps, communication tools, and sometimes certification in CPR or child development is beneficial. Patience, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills help build trust with both children and parents. These skills are crucial for ensuring children's safety, supporting family routines, and fostering a positive, nurturing environment.

Job description

Position Type: Full-Time
Location: Bellevue, WA 98004
Office: Jovie of Bellevue, WA
Summary:
A bit about us: We are an active Bellevue family seeking a dependable and engaging nanny for our 11-year-old son, who will be entering 5th grade this fall. He is easygoing and can be shy at first, but opens up once he feels comfortable. He enjoys chess, tennis, sports, and staying active, and our family also enjoys short trips and road trips together. We also have a Corgi named Lucki, so someone who is comfortable with dogs and willing to help with walks will fit right in. This will be our son’s first experience having a nanny outside of family care, so we’re excited to find someone who can become a trusted and positive presence in his daily life. The position is expected to begin sometime in September 2026, around the start of the school year, and continue through June 2027. Afternoons will generally include household support before school dismissal, greeting the child after school, transportation to sports or SSAT courses, homework and academic support, and helping him prepare for the next day before Dad takes over around 7:00 PM.
A bit about you: You are a confident, communicative caregiver who enjoys working with school-aged children and is ready to serve as both a nanny and positive role model. Strong vocabulary and math skills are important, as our son is preparing for the SSAT and will benefit from someone who can reinforce concepts and assist with assignments from his after-school courses. You demonstrate leadership while also having the patience to build a comfortable relationship with a child who may initially be reserved. You have at least 2–3 years of in-home nanny experience and are a safe, reliable driver with your own dependable vehicle. Most importantly, you are someone who can spend meaningful one-on-one time with our son while providing consistency, guidance, and strong communication.
What You’ll Do: Your afternoons will begin with light household support before our son arrives home from school around 2:40 PM, including tidying and folding laundry. You’ll greet him after school, help him transition into his afternoon, and drive him to sports, SSAT courses, and other scheduled activities using the family’s shared calendar. Once home, you’ll help ensure homework and SSAT-related assignments are completed, particularly providing guidance with vocabulary and math. You’ll also prepare simple snacks or meals such as sandwiches and help him get organized and ready for the following day. Additional responsibilities include walking the family dog and communicating regularly with Dad about the day, including promptly sharing any incidents or concerns.: “Text NANNY to 206-752-6917 to apply and schedule your interview in under 3 minutes.
Start Date: September 2026
Duration: Through June 2027
Schedule: Monday–Saturday, approximately 12:00 pm – 7:00/8:00 pm
Pay: $41-47/hour
Position Highlights: Long-term position through June 2027. Consistent Monday–Saturday schedule. Opportunity to build a meaningful one-on-one relationship with a school-aged child. Family is open to discussing additional compensation-related benefits with the right nanny.
You’ll be a great fit for this nanny job if you have:
  • 2-3+ years of hands on nannying experience with school-aged children
  • Ability to assist with homework and SSAT-related assignments
  • Strong vocabulary and math skills
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Safe and reliable driver
  • Dependable personal vehicle for transporting the child to activities
  • Comfortable preparing simple snacks and meals
  • Comfortable with dogs and willing to walk the family’s Corgi
  • Able to provide consistent daily communication with Dad
  • Glowing references from recent nanny positions

Set yourself apart: A great fit will be someone who naturally enjoys mentoring school-aged children and can balance academic encouragement with fun and connection. An interest in chess, tennis, sports, or other active pursuits could be a great way to connect. Experience supporting students with test preparation, vocabulary development, math, or academic enrichment would also be especially valuable. The family would love someone who can become a trusted role model while encouraging independence, responsibility, and confidence.
**All applicants must first interview with a Jovie specialist. Qualifying applicants will meet the family prior to being hired.
