Job description

Description The Associate Process Engineer will lead and support process and facility design for industrial and defense-related manufacturing environments, with a focus on energetics, hazardous materials and complex process systems. This role is responsible for delivering compliant, and high-performance designs for new facilities, expansions, and redevelopments, while integrating regulatory, operational, and production requirements into project execution.
  • Manage process design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Applies advanced knowledge of process design principles for hazardous and highly regulated systems, including integration of safety, operability and production requirements.
  • Develops innovative, non-standard solutions for complex manufacturing and processing environments where safety, containment and regulatory compliance are critical drivers.
  • Leads quality review and construction support efforts for safety-critical systems, coordinating with field personnel to resolve design integration issues, validate installation of specialized process equipment, and ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements. Manage field inspections, measurements or calculations for industry clients.
  • Supports business development efforts by identifying and advancing opportunities in specialized industrial sectors, including projects requiring advanced process safety, manufacturing optimization, and regulated facility design expertise.
  • Manage the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
  • Quality review and approve project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the process engineering practice.
  • Responsible for QA/QC process adherence and continuous improvement of process engineering practices.
  • Responsible for compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Leads or supports safety-driven design efforts by integrating hazard analysis, protective design strategies, and applicable codes and regulatory requirements into facility and process layouts.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and 13 years process engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 13 years process engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Master Degree in Chemical Engineering and 12 years process engineering experience. EPC project experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures. Strong knowledge of process design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Expert computer skills include process simulation software (i.e. Hysys and/or Aspen, HTRI) is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with leading the discipline design for large projects and delegating work tasks to team members. Ability to lead execution of work and resolve issues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills, ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.

Preferred:
  • Experience with hazardous, high-energy or highly regulated process systems (e.g., chemical, energetics, or industrial manufacturing environments) preferred.
  • Experience integrating safety and regulatory requirements into facility and process designs.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing operations, process optimization, and continuous improvement practices preferred.
