Job description

The Berlin Steel Construction Company is a full-service specialty contractor, primarily with structural steel and miscellaneous metals. We design, fabricate, and erect structures in the Northeast and in other parts of the country. We have 2 fabrication facilities, 4 erection operations facilities, and 6 office locations that provide engineering and management of projects. We are a 100% employee-owned company (ESOP) with a desire for growth. We service the private commercial, public, institutional, and industrial markets.
We are seeking a skilled Quality Control Inspector with hands-on shop experience in structural steel and bridge fabrication to join our team in Natural Bridge Station, VA. The ideal candidate will already hold their Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or be able to obtain it within one year of being hired. In this role, you will perform in-process and final inspections, ensuring compliance with project specifications, AWS D1.1, and our AISC Certified Quality Control Program.
Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret shop drawings for in-process fit-up inspections.
  • Perform final weld inspections in accordance with AWS D1.1 or job-specific requirements.
  • Schedule and coordinate Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) per project requirements.
  • Administer weld tests as directed by the QA Manager.
  • Read meter on welding machines and verify compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Conduct receiving inspections and address quality issues with suppliers.
  • Inspect surface preparation and final painting for compliance with specifications.
  • Collaborate with the Plant Manager to recommend quality improvements.
  • Maintain compliance with shop safety programs and AISC quality standards.
Qualifications
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or ability to obtain one within 1 year.
  • Minimum 5 years of QC experience in structural steel and bridge fabrication.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and using inspection tools for structural steel.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS D1.1 acceptance criteria.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Proficient with basic PC skills for reporting and documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Non-Destructive Testing experience in Ultrasonic Testing (UT) and Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) at ASNT-TC-1A Level II.
  • Knowledge in AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code preferred
  • NACE Coating Inspector Level 1 is a plus
