Job description

Job Title:    Part-time Voice Instructor
Department:  Voice         
Reports to: Voice Department Chair
Schedule: Tuesdays and/or Mondays - Afternoon-Evening.Position Overview Third Street Music School seeks a part-time music instructor to teach weekly private voice. The applicant should provide effective and engaging voice instruction to beginning school-aged, college students, and adult ages.
Exhibiting a unique combination of skill, experience, and empathy, faculty at Third Street seek to create a positive, welcoming, nurturing, and collegial environment. The ideal candidate is a dedicated voice educator and an exceptional musician who truly enjoys working with musicians of many ages in a community music school environment. Above all, Third Street places an emphasis on healthy singing and vocal technique in all styles of music and this candidate should be well-versed and excited about teaching musical theatre, contemporary, and classical styles. Classes take place weekly throughout the 32-week school year.  Days available include Tuesdays, with the potential for additional days. 
 Duties
  • Provide effective private voice instruction to students age 8+, including college aged and adult singers.
  • Establish a good rapport with families and provide constructive feedback and annual goals for each student 
  • Advise and support students and family in other Third Street Music program-related activities 
  • Prepare students for performance opportunities within the Third Street music community and external opportunities
  • Work positively with studio accompanist who attends lessons once a month
  • Attend all studio performances and recitals, and participate in department meetings and professional development
  • Engage in the overall work and mission of Third Street and contribute to an inclusive working and learning environment
  • Collaborate with Third Street registrar in scheduling and communication of lessons and classes.  
 Skills and Qualifications
  • A Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance or Pedagogy, Vocal Music Education, or equivalent experience required
  • 2 years minimum of private voice teaching experience in a private studio, community music school, collegiate or other school setting.
  • Able to consistently work in-person Tuesday early afternoons-evenings. Additional days may be assigned based on availability.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in arts education
  • Strong communication skills and effective personal skills for working with young and adult students and families
