Job description

Holy Family Catholic Church, located in Randallstown, Maryland is seeking qualified candidates for the ministry of Director of Music for our growing intercultural parish. This is a part-time and non-benefits eligible position, working approximately 4 hours per week. The Director of Music helps our parish to fulfill our mission "to help people to believe in Christ, belong to His Church, and bless our communities" through music to enhance our worship. The Director of Music reports directly to the pastor and is expected to work with other members of the parish as needed.
Essential Functions
  • Collaborate with the pastor, staff, and lay leadership in promoting the mission of the parish.
  • Under the direction of the pastor, organizes and directs the parish's music program, selecting and planning music.
  • Ensures ministry complies with the requirements of the Archdiocesan Office of Child and Youth Protection.
  • Ensure ministry cooperates with the Archdiocesan Office of Divine Worship.
  • Personally responsible for playing for Sunday Holy Mass at 11 AM. Playing also during Saturday Holy Mass at 4 PM is preferred. Otherwise, ensures musical coverage for all weekend Holy Masses and other liturgical celebrations (i.e., other sacramental celebrations, weddings, funerals, Holy Days of Obligation, and the Sacred Paschal Triduum).
  • During Sunday Holy Mass at 11 AM, personally responsible for working with the Cantors and the Adult Choir. Responsible for developing a Children's Choir in accordance with our Pastoral Plan.
  • Builds repertoire and encourages participation of parish community in singing.
  • Maintains equipment and resources.
  • Provides liturgical formation and practical preparation for cantors/choirs/musicians.

Position Qualifications
  • A degree in music and/or experience in music ministry is preferred
  • Knowledgeable of and comfortable with Catholic Church music literature in all forms and styles.
  • Proficient in Catholic liturgical principles; thorough understanding of the musical, liturgical, and pastoral judgements which must be made in selecting liturgical music.
  • Proficient in playing the organ. Proficiency in piano and keyboard is welcome.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with clergy, staff, parish leaders, and volunteers.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Possesses a strong, clear vision of how the local Church can worship in accordance with the parish's mission.
  • A practicing Catholic with understanding and support for the Catholic Church's teaching, mission, and values is preferred.

Range: $100 - 125.00, Hourly
