What are music management internships?

Music management internships are entry-level positions where students or recent graduates gain practical experience working in the business side of the music industry. Interns typically assist with tasks such as artist promotion, event planning, social media management, and administrative duties. These internships offer valuable exposure to the inner workings of record labels, artist management companies, or concert promotion agencies, helping interns build professional networks and develop industry-specific skills. They are an excellent way to learn about career opportunities in music management and to develop a deeper understanding of how the industry operates.

What types of projects and tasks can I expect to work on during a music management internship?

During a music management internship, you’ll typically assist with a variety of tasks such as researching potential venues and events, coordinating schedules for artists, supporting social media campaigns, and helping with logistics for live shows or recording sessions. Interns often work closely with managers and artists, gaining exposure to contract administration, marketing strategies, and the day-to-day operations of artist management. This hands-on experience provides valuable insight into the inner workings of the music industry and helps you develop essential skills for future roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a music management intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Music Management Intern, you need a foundational understanding of the music industry, strong organizational abilities, and preferably coursework or a degree in music business or a related field. Familiarity with project management tools, social media platforms, and music distribution systems is typically required. Excellent communication, networking skills, and adaptability help interns build relationships and handle dynamic industry environments. These skills are crucial for supporting managers, coordinating artist activities, and gaining hands-on experience in the fast-paced music business.
