Job description

Inspire the next generation of musicians through engaging music instruction and meaningful community connections. We are seeking a passionate Piano Instructor to teach individual and group lessons, develop creative curriculum, and help expand access to music education through collaborative partnerships. If you're an accomplished musician who loves teaching and making a difference, we'd love to hear from you.

The position works up to 18 hours a week with a pay rate of $20-$23/hour depending on skills and experience.

Kroc Mission Statement:

In keeping with the mission of The Salvation Army, The Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center provides facilities, programs and services that strengthen, encourage, and enrich children, adults, and seniors through positive life-changing experiences.

Job Objective:

The music instructor will be responsible for teaching group and/or individual music lessons, developing curriculum and assessments, and establishing collaborative partnerships within the community.

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Responsible for teaching individual and/or group music lessons.
  2. Effectively design and implement curriculum, assessment rubrics, and lesson plans for each course taught. A record and summary of activities must be provided to the Arts & Education Manager on a regular basis.
  3. Develop and implement ongoing collaborative partnerships for music programming with schools and organizations.
  4. Required to actively participate in the recruitment and outreach efforts set forth by the Arts & Education Manager.
  5. Required to attend assigned staff meetings.
  6. Willing to teach additional classes and workshops as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Music, or equivalent qualified performance experience.

Experience:

  • Three years required, five years preferred of teaching experience either in a classroom setting or private/group lessons.
  • Provide a record of musical performance experience.
  • Evidence of experience in curriculum development.

Competencies and Skills:

  • Have the ability to work with children, parents and staff in a capacity of leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Performance experience in individual content area of teaching.
  • Is expected to start class on time with room set-up and reset room as required.
  • A working knowledge of music literature.
  • Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of The Salvation Army.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible.
  • A willingness to promote the mission of the Salvation Army.
  • Must be Safe from Harm certified within 60 days of hire.

This job is performed at the Wisconsin & Upper Michigan Division Kroc Center (Green Bay) in an office environment at normal room temperature. The noise level in this work environment is usually low.
