Job Description - The Magic House
Job Title: Museum Guide
FLSA: Non-exempt
Status: Part- time
Reports To: Lead Museum Manager or Museum Manager
Job Purpose: To act as the Museum’s frontline representative delivering excellent customer service while maintaining a safe and playful environment.
Time Allocation: Up to 29 hours per week, as needed, with availability on at least one weekend day and occasional evenings
Expectation of Employee
  • Act in an honest, mature, and professional manner at all times;
  • Treat our visitors and co-workers with respect and courtesy;
  • Avoid any situation that may create or appear to create a conflict between our personal interests and the interests of The Magic House;
  • Safeguard the property of The Magic House through care and respect and avoid waste and abuse;
  • Report to work on time and with a can-do attitude;
  • Keep timely and accurate financial, attendance, and program records;

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Actively engage our guests in exhibit areas, answering questions, and taking an active role in providing an outstanding experience;
  • Act as customer relations liaison with visitors maintaining brand excellence in all areas of the Museum;
  • Take corrective actions to ensure exhibit needs and facility issues are addressed quickly and report unresolved issues to Museum Manager;
  • Know and execute emergency procedures, including lost children, fire and tornado;
  • Monitor exhibits on an ongoing basis for safety and cleanliness, including resetting exhibit areas and report issues to Museum Manager;
  • Supervise volunteers within exhibit areas;
  • Follow opening and closing procedures for public hours, events and programs;
  • Be familiar with basic knowledge of the Museum including current operating hours and event information;
  • Participate in trainings as required by the organization;
  • Perform other duties as assigned;

Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with children;
  • At least 16 years of age;
  • Reliable and dependable;
  • Positive, optimistic attitude;
  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Excellent customer service skills: helpful, friendly, and patient attitude;
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member, as well as independently;
  • Strong work ethic;
