Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade. \r\n**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations** \r\n

Nature of Work

The\r\nfundamental reason this classification exists is to protect property, visitors,\r\nand employees while enforcing the security rules and regulations. Primary work responsibilities may include: patrolling\r\nbuildings, structures, and/or grounds; utilizing surveillance equipment to\r\nobserve staff, patrons, and other visitors; investigating and taking\r\nappropriate action when alarms are activated or unusual situations occur;\r\ncompleting and submitting work orders; and interacting with patrons, visitors,\r\nand staff members. Employee works under\r\nthe direction of the Zoo Security Supervisor or Museum Chief Security Officer.\r\n

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and six months experience in security work, protecting persons and property.\r\n\r\n\r\nNOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.\r\n

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and insurable driving record in order to drive city vehicles for Zoo positions. Must submit to a background check due to the nature of the position. Must obtain an Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board 'Responsible Vendor' certification and be CPR/ADE certified within six months of employment for Museum positions. Work requires rotating shift work, nights, weekends, special events, and holidays.\r\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to walk, stand, and remain alert for the duration of the assigned shift as needed to perform security duties and patrol assigned areas. Must be able to climb stairs and a ladder at a height of 14 feet as needed to perform inspections of both the interior and the exterior of the facility. Must be willing to work outside as needed to perform security duties. \r\n
