Job Summary
The Programming and Marketing Coordinator supports the daily operations, public engagement, and visitors experience of the Spindletop Boomtown Museum. This position is responsible for developing and implementing marketing and outreach initiatives, coordinating museum programs and special events, managing guest services and retail operations, supervising part-time staff and volunteers, and assisting with collections and exhibit support activities. The coordinator serves as a primary representative of the museum to visitors and the community, fostering public awareness and engagement through promotional efforts, educational programming, and community partnerships. This position also assists with facilities coordination, environmental monitoring of exhibits, and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and well-maintained museum environment. The coordinator works closely with the Director to support the effective, efficient, and successful operation of the museum and reports issues, concerns, and operational needs as appropriate.
Essential Job Functions
    • Develop and implement marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives through social media, website content, university communications, press releases, and community engagement activities to promote museum programs, events, and services.
    • Coordinate and support museum programs, events, and visitor services, including event logistics, community outreach, ticket sales, guest assistance, and representation of the museum at public and networking events.
    • Manage museum retail and financial operations, including gift shop and vendor sales, cash handling, reconciliation of transactions, and timely deposit of museum revenues.
    • Supervise and coordinate part-time staff and volunteers to support museum operations, public programs, special events, presentations, and visitor engagement activities.
    • Support museum operations, collections, and facilities management by assisting with object inventories, digitization projects, exhibit care, environmental monitoring, facility upkeep, and reporting operational issues and maintenance needs to the Director.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
    • Associate degree in a related field or administration, one (1) year of progressively responsible programming experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
    • A minimum of one year of relevant professional experience in a related field or organizational setting.

Desired Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, museum studies, history, business administration or a related field.
    • Three (3) years of progressively responsible programming experience.

    • Ability to interact professionally and positively with children, families, and large groups in a public facing setting.

Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks.
Job Conditions: The work environment includes indoor and outdoor spaces, exposure to a wide variance of temperatures, exposure to dust and debris, exposure to cleaning agents.
