Position
On-Call Museum Associates work in Visitor Services and Museum Store and enjoy a variety of opportunities to interact with visitors in a welcoming environment. They are an integral part of making sure our visitors have an engaging and positive experience while visiting the museum. A desire to help people have great experiences, whether they are a visitor or a fellow staff member, is the most important qualification.
 

The On-Call position is year-round, without guaranteed hours and not to exceed 30 hours in a week.  This is an "as-needed" arrangement where employee will be offered Museum Associate shifts on a day-to-day basis.  

  • High need dates will be discussed and assigned in advance. Once scheduled, an On-Call shift is then considered mandatory.
  • Unplanned opportunities for additional shifts may also occur, potentially with minimal notice. These dates will function as a request only, subject to the On-Call employee's availability and interest.

Responsibilities
Admissions:

  • Greets visitors, provides orientation and recommendations for different experiences guests can engage in while on campus
  • Promotes Studio and Gallery Tours and other programming to visitors, completes ticket sales via POS and reservation systems.
  • Answers phones, direct calls, and provide guests with assistance with online bookings over the phone.
  • Open and close duties as assigned.

Museum Store & Café:

  • Assists customers with their purchases and is familiar with Store Merchandise.
  • Replenishes inventory, stock, and display merchandise in an attractive and neat manner. May assist with stocking and display in Cafe as well. 
  • May assist primary server in the café, as either a cashier or runner, in keeping with all health & safety best practices. This position cannot serve alcohol unless TIPs Certified.
  • Open and close duties as assigned.

Membership & Programs:

  • Explains the benefits of Membership to new visitors by being familiar with Membership options.
  • Assists with museum events and special experiences.
  • Supports overall museum operations, and mission as well as safety policies to ensure the safety of the collections, staff, and facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Computer Literacy and Technology Skills

Demonstrated ability to use standard workplace technology, including Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel), shared calendars, email, cloud-based file storage, and collaboration tools (e.g., Teams). Must be able to follow documented procedures, maintain accurate digital records, and quickly learn and reliably use museum systems to support efficient workflows and clear communication.


Qualifications  

  • Available for flexible schedule, including possible weekend shifts. 
  • Compensation is tied to hours worked: On-Call employee must be comfortable with fluctuating      earnings.
  • Personable with excellent communication skills.
  • Work confidently, courteously, and efficiently in a busy environment. 
  • Comfortable using a variety of technology systems, and willing to help visitors engage with digital technology (Mobile App) while on campus.
  • Enjoys interacting with customers and making recommendations.
  • Desire to help people have great experiences.
  • Interest in visual arts with a curiosity to learn about Norman Rockwell and Illustration art.
  • Spanish speaking ability and/or any foreign language ability a plus

General Museum Hours: Work hours will typically be 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, though availability outside of these hours can be noted and may be utilized.  The museum is open 6 days a week to the public, closed on Wednesdays.
