Job description

The UMLAUF Sculpture Garden + Museum is seeking dedicated volunteers to work at our Front Desk. Our ideal candidate is available for two to four 3-hour shifts per month on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays.

The UMLAUF team is small, but quickly growing and we currently rely on volunteers to be our public facing ambassadors. It's a rewarding role in which you get to have meaningful conversations with visitors about art, nature, and a love of Austin. This position is ideal for people seeking regular volunteer work in a calm environment with a strong sense of community! Our volunteers make this place run and we're so appreciative. All members of UMLAUF's team have formed deep and lasting friendships with one another.

Title: Front Desk Associate

Department: Visitor Services

Reports To: Visitor Experience + Volunteer Manager

Works With: All museum staff and the public

Responsibilities:

  • Make admission and gift shop sales
  • Inform visitors of the current exhibitions and collection
  • Engage with visitors to provide a personable and welcoming experience
  • Maintain a tidy Gallery and Gift Shop space
  • Monitor the Gallery to ensure all Museum policies are followed
  • Answer phone calls and general questions
  • Must be comfortable using an iPad-style point of sale system and handling cash

Training:

  • Training is done online ahead of your first shift.
  • Day-of training is also provided.
  • Staff provide continued support throughout your shifts.
