Time Commitment: Generally comprises 40 hours per week.

Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. In this role, you'll help ensure the accuracy and integrity of Hillwood's financial records by managing day-to-day accounting activities, preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, supporting payroll, and assisting with month-end and year-end close processes. You'll work closely with the Director of Finance and other team members to strengthen financial reporting, improve processes, and support the museum's mission through sound financial stewardship.

Key Job Elements

  • Verify, post, allocate, and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and general ledger activity.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and month-end journal entries.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare financial statements and ensure accuracy and completeness of financial reporting.
  • Prepare and file tax returns.
  • Support external audits by preparing documentation and responding to requests.
  • Research accounting issues and recommend practical solutions.
  • Help improve accounting processes, internal controls, and financial reporting practices.
  • Train staff on finance procedures, forms, and policies.
  • Provide backup support to other Finance team members as needed.
  • Organizational Relationships

Knowledge

  • Five years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.
