Job description

Overview

The Lead Cardiology Technician oversees the daily operations of the cardiology technicians within the cardiac diagnostics team. The lead performs cardiac diagnostic tests including EKGs, Holter monitoring and stress testing. This position ensures high-quality patient care, adherence to clinical protocols and collaborates closely with cardiologists and other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions)

  • Supervise cardiology technicians and ensure efficient workflow.

  • Prepare and coordinate staff schedules. Ensure adequate coverage. Rotate staff for lunch breaks.

  • Provide mentorship and training to staff and students (when applicable). Perform needed competencies.

  • Serve as a liaison between technicians, physicians and department leadership.

  • Responsible for working departmental work queues and reviewing departmental charges within the hospital's electronic health record system.

  • Manage Muse system and educate staff and physicians, as needed.
  • Key point of contact for monitoring companies, as well as resolving monitoring issues should they arise.

  • Maintain equipment and ensure functionality, coordinate repairs and calibrations.
  • Ensures compliance with hospital policies and procedures. Assists manager with the developing and reviewing of policies and procedures.
  • Participate and lead the team in quality improvement initiatives and accreditation processes. Responsible for monitoring the quality performance of staff and providing additional education, when needed.
  • Maintain accurate logs and departmental records.
  • Manage inventory and order necessary supplies.
  • Performs EKGs, stress tests (exercise and pharmacologic), Holter monitoring and other non-invasive cardiac procedures and monitoring.
  • Performs patient assessment of vital signs and pulses.
  • Transports patients via wheelchair and stretcher.
  • Ensures patient care and safety standards are met within the department.  Relay concerns of patient or patient's family to charge nurse or directly to the physician. Keep family apprised of patient status.
  • Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned.

    Job Specific (Minimum Qualifications)

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Must be a knowledgeable and experienced cardiology or EKG technician.

    • Participate in continuing education programs and department meetings, as well as assist the manager in meeting content.

    • Possess strong organizational, leadership and communication (both verbally and written) skills.
    • Must have integrity, compassion, confidentiality and professionalism.

    • Self-motivation incorporated into a strong spirit of teamwork is required.

     

    Education

    High School Diploma/GED Equivalent in general studies is Required.

    Experience

    5 years of Cardiology experience is Required.

    Certifications and Licensures

    Certification as a Cardiologic or EKG Technician is Required.

    Certified Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation is Required.

    Annual Mandatory Competencies

    General Radiation Safety is required.
