The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is seeking a highly skilled and confident Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) to join our established Level I/II neonatal practice at MUSC Health Columbia Medical Center Northeast. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a collaborative, forward-thinking team that leverages cutting-edge Telehealth technology to deliver exceptional care in partnership with MUSC Physicians in Charleston, SC.
As a vital member of our neonatal team, you will:
· Attend high-risk deliveries and provide immediate, expert care to newborns.
· Develop and implement individualized care plans for each infant.
· Collaborate in real-time with MUSC’s neonatology specialists via Telehealth, ensuring continuity and excellence in care.
· Make autonomous, informed decisions in a fast-paced environment, while effectively communicating critical information to off-site physicians.

Job Description

  • Collaborate in real-time with MUSC’s neonatology specialists via Telehealth, ensuring continuity and excellence in care.
  • Make autonomous, informed decisions in a fast-paced environment, while effectively communicating critical information to off-site physicians.

We’re looking for a candidate who brings clinical expertise, sound judgment, and confidence in neonatal care, and thrives in a collaborative, tech-enabled setting.

About this position:

  • Seeking candidates with at least 5 years of experience as an NNP.

  • Inpatient Coverage - Level I/II Nursery (ADC 1-2)

  • 7 (24 hour) shifts a month

  • Shifts are 8am – 5pm in-house with call from home after 5pm (within 30 min)

  • Call Room provided for providers outside of 30-minute radius.

  • Peds Consults to ER as requested

  • Must be comfortable with patients 32 weeks and above, resuscitation, CPAP, peripheral IVs, ART sticks, managing ventilators, administering pulmonary surfactant, umbilical lines, catheters, and other sick baby related procedures. 

  • Circumcision is a must, will provide training with Plastibell if needed.

  • Strong Leadership preferred

Required Minimum Training and Education:

  • Physician Assistant (PA): Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant.

or

  • NP/NNP: Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP)

  • Must have at least 3-5 years’ experience as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with experience in the Neonatal ICU.

Degree of Supervision: Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as an

  • NNP with the SC Board of Nursing, or a

  • Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners.

  • Requires certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). If BLS is not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date.

  • Requires certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). If NRP is not current, provider must enroll and have received certificate by start date. DHEC and DEA license applications must be submitted prior to first day.
