Job description

Summary
You will serve as a MARINE MACHINERY MECHANIC LEADER in the DEPARTMENT OF NAVY to include work sites of Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Trident Refit Facility Bangor and Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility.
Applicants will only be considered for positions within their own UIC. For example: if you are within UIC 4523A, you will only be considered for positions within 4523A.

Duties
Help
  • You will apply a variety of methods, procedures, and techniques to layout, install, align, overhaul, repair, and maintain numerous types of marine machinery, equipment, and systems.
  • You will utilize and apply standard formulas, shop mathematics, trade theories, and industry practices in calculating needed materials and problem solving.
  • You will utilize various test equipment and measuring devices such as alignment scopes, verniers, micrometers, precision levels, transits, strobe tachometers, bearing bridge gauges, flow meters, hydrostatic testers, and vibration analyzers.
  • You will set up and operate machine tools such as small lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and precision grinders to manufacture component parts or remachine existing parts such as bushings, bearings, seals, couplings, and pistons.
  • You will utilize machine tools for onsite milling, grinding, boring, facing, and drilling, and the use of various other portable machine tools to accomplish repairs.
  • You will disassemble, repair, and rebuild components and assemblies such as shafts, propellers, rudders, engines, and sea valves.
  • You will operate machinery and equipment for launching and arresting gear systems, missile handling and launch systems, torpedo tubes, periscopes, antennas, sonar, and radar equipment, and shipboard equipment.
  • You will interpret and apply the requirements contained in technical manuals, shop directives, multiview blueprints, and other documents in determining critical dimensions and key reference points.

  • This position may require exposure to high noise levels.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position may be subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
