Job Summary/Description:
WNEM is recruiting for a Reporter/MMJ in the Flint office. The WNEM Reporter/MMJ researches, writes, reports, shoots video, and edits news material for television newscasts and all WNEM news platforms and initiatives. This includes writing and posting daily on all digital platforms and social media. The successful individual will furnish a wide variety of news content, either working alone or in tandem with other field personnel. The Reporter/MMJ contributes live shots utilizing technology for feeding stories to the Content Center. The individual will be called upon to represent WNEM in public professionally and courteously. NO PHONE CALLS PLEASE.
Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Writes, reports, presents live from studio and in the field, shoots and edits video news stories from concept to finish; contributes copy stories to newscasts and digital platforms.
- Performs live reports daily.
- Generates story ideas, cultivates news sources, and remains knowledgeable regarding places, events, and people in the news, local and national.
- Contributes to our minute-by-minute digital news efforts on all platforms with web content, social media posts, and live digital reports.
- Builds community contacts, shares information relating to upcoming events, meetings, or story developments.
- Presents stories via on-air, live from the set, live remotes, or live indoor locations.
- Serves as community ambassador for the news department.
- Responds to concerns of viewers.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism, Communications, or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
- At least one year of experience in broadcast journalism.
- Experience reporting (MMJ) news at a commercial television station preferred.
- Valid Driver's License with good driving record.
