Job description

Amazon Watch is a dynamic nonprofit organization working to protect and defend the Amazon rainforest and our climate in partnership and solidarity with Indigenous peoples and the climate justice movement.

The Amazon has reached an ecological tipping point due to increased deforestation and degradation. To turn this around, we must protect 80% of the Amazon, including 100% of Indigenous territories. Amazon Watch works directly and in solidarity with Indigenous, forest peoples, and international allies to hold governments, corporations, and financial institutions accountable for Amazon destruction and human rights violations.

We are seeking a passionate professional to serve as our Visual Storytelling & Social Media Strategist as part of the Amazon Watch Communications Team. This position is responsible for creating compelling digital content and coordinating Amazon Watch's social media presence.

Working as part of the Communications team and in close collaboration with program, digital organizing, development, and partnership staff, the Strategist translates Amazon Watch's campaigns, partnerships, and rapid-response priorities into accessible and engaging content. The position creates and edits multimedia materials, coordinates publishing across social platforms, engages online communities, and helps maintain the organization's collection of visual and digital assets.

The ideal candidate combines creativity and strong editorial judgment with excellent organization, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to ethical storytelling. • Adapt campaign information, research, news, and partner updates into clear and compelling digital stories.
  • Edit and prepare content provided by Indigenous partners and allies for amplification, following organizational standards for consent, attribution, accuracy, and ethical storytelling.
  • Support the creation and editing of materials for Amazon Watch's website, emails, publications, events, and fundraising communications as assigned.
  • Source photographs, video, audio, and other creative assets for communications and campaign projects.
  • Help maintain consistency with Amazon Watch's editorial voice, visual identity, messaging, and style guidelines.

Social media coordination

  • Coordinate the day-to-day implementation of Amazon Watch's social media plans across relevant platforms.
  • Maintain an accurate and collaborative social media calendar in coordination with the Communications team.
  • Draft, schedule, publish, and quality-check social content, balancing planned communications with rapid-response needs.
  • Monitor social channels and coordinate timely, appropriate engagement with followers, partners, and other online communities.
  • Identify opportunities to amplify Indigenous partners, allies, campaigns, and relevant news.
  • Support relationships and content collaborations with aligned creators, influencers, and organizational partners.
  • Stay informed about platform developments, digital storytelling practices, audience behavior, and emerging opportunities.
  • Track basic performance indicators and prepare regular summaries to help the team understand what content is reaching and engaging audiences.

Asset and information coordination

  • Organize and maintain Amazon Watch's digital archive of photographs, video, audio, graphics, and related permissions and attribution information.
  • Coordinate internal requests for visual and multimedia assets.
  • Proactively identify and acquire evergreen assets and footage for future projects.
  • Maintain organized content files, production notes, source information, and related communications materials.
  • Assist in monitoring mentions and coverage on social media related to Amazon Watch's priority issues and campaign targets.
  • Help respond to appropriate academic, informational, presentation, and research requests.
