Job description

To be considered for this position you must complete the state application and attach all required documents through the Montana State Careers site at  www.statecareers.mt.gov.

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Montana State Hospital - Grasslands.

This position is located in Helena, MT at the Grasslands facility, which is an off-site facility of the Montana State Hospital. It is funded through June 30, 2027. After this date, the position may be funded permanently or may be subject to a reduction in force (RIF).

Montana State Hospital is seeking full-time Psychiatric Technicians (Psych Techs) for variable shifts, including days, nights, and evenings. Psych Techs provide assistance and support to clients in a therapeutic environment. Responsibilities include supervising and accounting for patients'; provide care as directed by medical and nursing providers; observe, report and document information concerning patients' physical, emotional and behavior status; provide and assist with therapeutic activities and activities of daily living; maintains and protects patients' rights; recognize and appropriately response using therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques with patients'.

Employees who have successfully completed training will be places in a specified work shift consisting of five (5) consecutive 8-hour workdays followed by 2 consecutive days off. Additionally, shift differential may be available. This position may be eligible for a hiring bonus up to $7,500.00

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Ability to work with patients that require variations of assistance

  • Ability to utilize equipment necessary to perform routine care and procedures

  • Knowledge of health practices and methods for providing care

  • Ability to make observations and report/record them accurately

  • Meet minimum qualifications:

    • High School diploma or equivalent

    • At least 1 year of experience working in a mental health psychiatric setting strongly preferred

    • Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information in compliance with HIPPA policy and procedure
