Job description

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Counsel for Partnerships, Marketing & Hospitality will be a key member of the Legal & Business Affairs department, providing broad-based commercial legal support across the Madison Square Garden Family of Companies. This role will be responsible for structuring, drafting, and negotiating a high volume of complex agreements for some of the company's most visible and revenue-generating initiatives. The position will primarily support the marketing, brand partnerships, and premium hospitality teams for Madison Square Garden Entertainment, Madison Square Garden Sports, and Sphere, with a focus on sponsorship sales and partner-driven marketing activations for the Knicks, Rangers, and other MSG properties and venues, creative services and advertising for Sphere and its Exosphere, as well as premium seating hospitality at MSG Arena and Sphere.

Specific Functions/Activities SUMMARY:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including sponsorship, marketing, advertising, creative services, productions, media, and promotional agreements for Sphere, Madison Square Garden Entertainment, and Madison Square Garden Sports.
  • Structure and negotiate premium hospitality agreements, such as suite licenses, club licenses, and other hospitality contracts for our portfolio of venues.
  • Advise on brand activations, including sponsor-related events, digital marketing, ad copy/imagery, productions, licensing, influencers, talent, artists, not-for-profit organizations, and contests, sweepstakes and other promotions, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations (e.g., FTC, privacy, IP), league rules, and company policy.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues within the Legal & Business Affairs department and with stakeholders across the company to achieve business objectives while mitigating risk.
  • Assist with other general commercial legal matters and special projects as requested.
  • Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site. ย 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the New York State Bar in good standing.
  • 3-5 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with training at a top-tier law firm or in-house experience.
  • Substantial experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, particularly in the areas of marketing, sponsorship, media, productions, and advertising.
  • Experience in sports, live entertainment, or media industries is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and drafting skills, with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to provide practical, timely legal advice to business clients in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly organized and able to manage a high volume of projects and competing deadlines effectively.
