Job description

Who are we hiring?  

The News Services department is responsible for tracking all The Madison Square Garden Company's media presence in media publications, social media news outlets, broadcast, and radio both within the tri state area, and relevant markets (Las Vegas, LA, Chicago, Boston, etc.). The Analyst News Services is responsible for monitoring the designated media publications (both print and online), broadcast and radio shows for any MSG or MSG related mentions that occur. Once clips are identified, the Analyst will use their independent judgment to determine which clips are relevant and will be responsible for gathering and formatting these clips and sending them to the proper groups. The Analyst can fill in for the Senior Manager and other News Services Analyst when needed.   

 What will you do?  

  • Monitor print, online, broadcast, radio and social media outlets for any MSG related mentionsor industry news.   
  • Tracking, formatting and distributing department clips for Knicks, Rangers, Entertainment, Sphere, MSG Networks, Sports Properties and Corporate 
  • Monitoring Sports and Entertainment reporters on X for purpose of capturing stories 
  • Upload clips into Meltwater system, paying close attention to formatting guidelines 
  • Provide departments with news analytics such as reach, media value, etc.    
  • Maintain and keep up to date knowledge of client requirements and business developments, the media environment and working procedures  
  • Uses independent judgment to prepare media briefs as per department specifications and ensures that deadlines and quality standards are met 
  • Research a variety of topics for the Communications department, including potential pitching opportunities  
  • Transcribe interviews or broadcast segments for archival purposes 
  • Serve as backup for other staff members (vacations, sick time, etc.) 
  • Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.  

What do you need to succeed?  

  • Previous experience in media monitoring 
  • Advanced knowledge & passion of sports, particularly the tri-state area teams  
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate news item accurately and with urgency, spotting current trends and forecasting potential issues 
  • Meticulous attention to detail and eye for formatting 
  • Public relations and/or journalistic background and ability 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook 
  • Ability to multi-task and understand how to prioritize 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 
  • Positive attitude and ability to work well with others in different environments and situations 
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed 
  • Preferred experience in corporate communications preferably at a media/entertainment, news or sports company or property; or agency experience representing media/entertainment companies and experience with Meltwater, Muck Rack, Critical Mention and/or other media monitoring tools
