Position:     AssistantDirector of Special Services 

Date Position Available:     July 1, 2026

Qualifications:     Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years' experience in the field of public education, including experience as a special education teacher and hold State of Maine Certification, (035) Assistant Administrator of Special Education or equivalent State of Maine Administrator certification, and current CHRC authorization through the State of Maine Department of Education. 

MSAD #11 is seeking a collaborative and student-centered administrator to join our team. In this role, you will work closely with school leaders, educators, related service providers, students, and families to ensure that special education services are delivered effectively, compliantly, and with a strong focus on student growth and belonging.

Key Responsibilities:

  • IEP Development & Meeting Facilitation: Facilitate IEP meetings support teams in developing high-quality individualized programs, and foster meaningful family participation throughout the process. Ensure IEPs comply with identified student disabilities, with supports and services aligned to address each student's academic and/or functional needs.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work alongside teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to problem-solve student needs, strengthen inclusive practices, make eligibility decisions, and provide guidance on specialized instruction and accommodations.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Oversight: Ensure district special education practices align with state and federal regulations. Monitor timelines, documentation, and procedural requirements within the district to maintain compliant special education records.
  • Development of our Extended School Year Program: hiring, schedule setting, transportation, family communication.
  • Case Management of students placed at special purpose private schools; coordinating IEP implementation, monitoring academic and functional progress, ensuring compliance with special education regulations, facilitating communication among stakeholders.
  • Supervision and Evaluation of Inclusion Specialists; including mentoring, performance evaluations, fostering collaboration to drive student achievement and success.
