Title: Blades Loads and Dynamics Engineer ID: 1052 Location: Boulder, CO Salary Range: $125,000.00 - $170,000.00
Envision Energy's Global Blade Innovation Center (GBIC) wasย establishedย in 2015 to develop an in-house blade design group. Blade design engineers from industry-leading OEMs, national labs, and top graduates have collaborated for the pastย 11ย years,ย leveragingย the best of their collective knowledge and experience to createย a state-of-the-artย design capability.ย Envision'sย in-house blade designs and technology have disrupted theย internationalย blade market and resulted in significant cost of energy reductions (LCOE) and an expanded Envision market share. Envision is currentlyย seekingย talented and highly motivated engineers to expand our team and further develop exciting new blade design capabilities and technologies.ย ย ย
As a member of GBIC's conceptual blade design team with a specialization in loads andย dynamics, you will playย a central roleย in the aeroelastic design, simulation,ย and analysis of new blades and blade technologies. Your work will provide the technical basis for the strategic direction ofย Envision'sย next generation of market leading turbine products.ย ย
The successful candidate will have most of the following qualifications:ย
Deep understandingย and experience withย dynamics,ย aeroelasticity,ย controlsย theory, aerodynamics, composite structures, and possiblyย aero-acousticsย withย demonstratedย ability to apply these disciplines to solve complex engineering challenges.ย
Wind turbine aeroelastic modeling experience with industry standard tools such as FAST, BLADED, HAWC2, FLEX, ADAMS, SAMCEF or similarย with the ability to interpretย findings, troubleshoot unexpectedย results and recognize model limitationsย
Programming experience in MATLAB, FORTRAN, C/C++, Python, or similar.ย Experience with revision control software like Git or Mercurial is also an asset.ย
Demonstrated ability to make effective engineering decisions in face of uncertainty and delivery pressure,ย balance riskย and performance and communicate recommendations withย clarity.ย Manage time and resources effectively and establish professional working relationships with colleagues from many different backgrounds.ย
It is not expected that the ideal candidate has all the qualifications above. What is compulsory however, isย a strong desireย to quickly learn and adapt combined with a sense of technical curiosity and a self-motivating/self-starting open mindset that will enable easy knowledge transfer.ย
Your daily work will include some or all the following:ย
Multibody dynamic loads analysis of wind turbine systems and concise communication of your findings to the design team and relevant stakeholders. Interpretation of results, troubleshooting, and studying means to mitigate challenges are expected.ย ย
Development of new engineering tools/scripts to improve the automation, speed, accuracy, and consistency of common design and analysis deliverables.ย ย ย
Develop and implement novel solutions for performance challenges in the windย industry using first principles, computational modeling,ย real-world evidence while incorporating multidisciplinary factors.ย ย
Theย Loads andย Dynamicsย Engineer should have strong interpersonal,ย collaborationย and communication skills and be able to clearly articulate the conclusions from complicated engineering analysis to both expert and non-expert groups alike.ย ย A minds-on / hands-on approach is expected withinย Envision'sย highly entrepreneurial corporate culture as you tackle new challenges.ย Desireย and ability to work acrossย differentย culturesย and international time zones is also critical.ย ย
Candidates should expect up to 15%ย internationalย travel.ย
