Job description

Job Purpose

As a Car Wash Service Technician at Mr. Clean Car Wash, you are responsible for keeping the tunnel, vacuum, water, and payment systems at your assigned site(s) running at 100%. You are the go-to technical resource for both Store Management and the Corporate Office - the person who diagnoses the problem, makes the repair, documents the work, and prevents it from happening again. This is a hands-on mechanical and electrical maintenance role, not a car wash attendant role. You will travel between assigned locations, work independently for most of your day, and be accountable for the uptime of the equipment you cover.

Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Repair & Troubleshooting
  • Diagnose and repair tunnel equipment: conveyor and chain systems, correlators, rollers, wraps, mitters, top and side brushes, wheel blasters, applicator arches, dryers/blowers, and tire shine applicators.
  • Diagnose and repair support equipment: high-pressure pumps, motors, gear reducers, air compressors, pneumatic actuators and solenoids, hydraulic systems, and central vacuum producers.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems including 3-phase power, motor starters, contactors, relays, photo eyes and proximity sensors, limit switches, VFDs, and tunnel controllers/PLCs.
  • Service water systems: reclaim, RO/spot-free rinse, water softeners, booster pumps, heaters, and PVC plumbing repair.
  • Service chemical delivery systems: dosing and injection pumps, mixing stations, lines, tips, and calibration to spec.
  • Support pay stations, gate arms, LPR cameras, RFID readers, and related site technology; work with the Corporate Office and vendors on network or software-side faults.
  • Perform basic fabrication and repair work as needed (cutting, drilling, bolting, mounting; welding a plus).
Preventive Maintenance
  • Execute scheduled daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly PM routines on assigned equipment and document completion.
  • Inspect for wear before failure - belts, bearings, chains, brush material, hoses, seals, and fittings - and schedule replacement proactively.
  • Track recurring failures and recommend permanent fixes rather than repeat repairs.
Documentation, Technology & Reporting
  • Create, update, and close service tickets in Acumatica, our service management system, the same day the work is performed - including problem description, root cause, parts used, and labor time.
  • Use a company-issued tablet or smartphone throughout the shift to log work, capture before/after photos of repairs, complete digital PM checklists, and pull up equipment history on site.
  • Locate and interpret installation manuals, operating manuals, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer tech bulletins in digital (PDF) form to guide troubleshooting and identify correct part numbers.
  • Look up, request, and order parts through approved vendor portals and internal ordering processes; verify part numbers against equipment model and serial data.
  • Maintain accurate on-hand parts and consumable inventory for your assigned site(s) and flag reorder needs before stock-outs cause downtime.
  • Communicate professionally by email and company messaging with Store Management, the Corporate Office, and outside vendors - including clear written status updates on open issues.
  • Report equipment status, downtime, and completed work accurately and on time; incomplete or after-the-fact documentation is not acceptable.
Site, Safety & Team Support
  • Maintain the overall site operational readiness so every customer receives a quality wash and vacuum experience.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures on all electrical and mechanical work, without exception.
  • Follow chemical handling and PPE requirements; know where SDS documentation is and how to use it.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area, service vehicle, and parts room.
  • Coach store teams on basic first-response steps and correct operation so minor issues do not become major ones.
  • Escalate appropriately and work alongside vendors, contractors, and other technicians when a repair is beyond scope.
  • Respond to after-hours and emergency calls per the on-call rotation.
  • Perform other job tasks as assigned to support the service team and operations.
Preferred Education / Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Service-related trade school, technical certificate, or apprenticeship a plus
  • A college education is a plus
  • 2+ years of experience in a car wash environment
  • Experience in car wash service and repair
  • 2+ years of experience in a related hands-on service field (industrial/commercial maintenance, facilities maintenance, automotive or diesel repair, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, agricultural or manufacturing equipment repair, or similar)
  • Experience working from schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals
Required Skills and AbilitiesTechnical
  • Ability to safely troubleshoot and repair electrical circuits, including use of a multimeter
  • Ability to read and work from wiring diagrams, hydraulic/pneumatic schematics, and parts breakdowns
  • Working mechanical skills: bearings, belts, chains, couplings, pumps, motors, and gear reducers
  • Basic plumbing skills, including PVC cutting, gluing, and fitting
  • Ability to diagnose logically - isolate the cause rather than replace parts by guess
  • Ownership of a basic set of personal hand tools
Computer & Tablet
  • Comfortable using a tablet or smartphone as a daily work tool, not occasionally
  • Ability to enter and close service tickets in a work-order system (Acumatica or comparable CMMS/ field-service software) with accurate, readable, complete detail
  • Ability to take, label, and upload job photos from a mobile device
  • Ability to navigate digital manuals and tech bulletins - searching a PDF, using a parts diagram, matching a part number
  • Ability to send and respond to professional email and company messages
  • Basic comfort with spreadsheets and web-based vendor/parts portals
  • Willingness to learn new software; training on Acumatica and our internal systems is provided
Physical
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and seasons
  • Ability to work in a wet environment and around cleaning chemicals
  • Ability to be on your feet for extended periods or the entire work shift
  • Physically able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, reach, climb, and step to perform job duties
  • Ability to work at height on ladders and equipment platforms
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as pits and equipment rooms
  • Ability to carry up to 50 pounds for short distances
  • Ability to maneuver around vehicles
Minimum Qualifications
  • Flexible availability, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Willingness to participate in an after-hours on-call rotation and respond to emergency calls
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and ability to travel between assigned locations during the workday
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening
