Job description

Description:Lawn Mowing Crew Leader – Turf Operations Captain

Full-Time (April - November) | Field-Based | Lead by Example. Deliver Results. Build the Team.

WHAT WE DO

At N.E.W. Landscape & Lawn Care, we’re in the business of delivering clean lines, perfect edges, and properties that stand out. As a Lawn Mowing Crew Leader, you’re the one driving the results—both on the turf and within the team. You’ll lead a small crew through daily routes, manage quality standards, operate commercial-grade equipment, and make sure every lawn gets done right.

This role isn’t about barking orders—it’s about leading from the front, taking pride in what gets done, and helping your crew succeed. If you care about quality, communicate clearly, and like the rhythm of structured outdoor work, this is the leadership opportunity for you.

WHO WE ARE (OUR CORE VALUES)

Do the Right Thing Always
Be honest, take initiative, and set the example for your crew.

Own Your Results
You’re responsible for your route, your crew, and your finished product.

Leave It Better
Every lawn, every process, every teammate. Improve it.

Keep Growing
Coach your crew. Refine your systems. Level up your leadership.

We Before Me
Lead for the good of the team—not your ego.

Take Pride in the Work
Quality isn’t a goal—it’s the baseline. Clean cuts, sharp edges, and safe jobsites.

WHY JOIN OUR TEAM
  • You’re In Charge – Run your own route and lead your own crew
  • Clean Equipment – Reliable, commercial-grade tools and trucks
  • Leadership Growth – Advance into ops, training, or sales with proven performance
  • Team Respect – Your leadership matters, and your input helps shape how we grow
  • Daily Results – See the tangible results of your leadership every single day
WHO YOU ARE
  • You’ve got solid experience in lawn maintenance and want to lead a crew
  • You’re skilled with zero-turn mowers, string trimmers, blowers, and basic equipment care
  • You communicate clearly and can coach teammates without barking or blaming
  • You’re organized, reliable, and focused on quality even when it’s hot or hectic
  • You have a valid driver’s license, clean record, and punctual work habits
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
Route Management & Quality Control
  • Lead a Solo - 3 person crew through daily mowing routes
  • Review work orders, job notes, and client expectations before hitting the road
  • Ensure all services (mowing, trimming, edging, blowing) are completed to spec
  • Walk each property before leaving to check for missed details
Crew Leadership & Training
  • Assign daily roles and tasks based on skill levels and site needs
  • Train newer techs on proper mowing patterns, safe trimming, and route efficiency
  • Monitor crew performance and give real-time coaching
  • Lead morning huddles and check-ins to align the team
Equipment Oversight
  • Load, secure, and operate mowing equipment safely
  • Perform basic pre- and post-shift equipment checks (blades, oil, tire pressure)
  • Report any mechanical issues or tool needs to the shop team
Client Communication & Reporting
  • Greet clients if they’re present and answer basic service questions
  • Report upsell opportunities (e.g., turf damage, overgrowth, seasonal needs)
  • Submit route completion notes, timesheets, and any issues using mobile app or logs
THIS JOB IS FOR YOU IF:

You enjoy working outdoors and thrive in a leadership role
You believe in doing the job right the first time—no shortcuts
You can manage time, people, and equipment with confidence
You take ownership of your route and your crew’s performance
You want to grow in a company that rewards field leadership

THIS JOB IS NOT FOR YOU IF:

You struggle to hold others accountable or lead by example
You cut corners or overlook small details
You dislike physical work or working in seasonal conditions
You resist feedback or avoid responsibility
