The ideal candidate is a confident operator who understands how to lead managers, improve systems, solve problems quickly, and hold teams accountable to measurable performance standards. We are not looking for someone who simply maintains daily operations. We need a leader who can evaluate the market, identify weaknesses, implement solutions, and deliver consistent results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide executive-level leadership over all Detroit market operations.
  • Oversee daily scheduling, dispatch, staffing, fleet coordination, job execution, and service delivery.
  • Lead, coach, and hold managers, team leads, drivers, movers, and operational staff accountable.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and ensure company policies and procedures are consistently followed.
  • Monitor revenue, labor costs, operational expenses, productivity, job completion rates, and overall market profitability.
  • Review market performance data and develop corrective action plans when goals are not being met.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement systems that improve performance, communication, and accountability.
  • Ensure the Detroit market is properly staffed based on current demand and projected business needs.
  • Partner with Human Resources and Recruitment on hiring, onboarding, performance management, disciplinary actions, and workforce planning.
  • Address escalated customer concerns and ensure issues are handled professionally and efficiently.
  • Maintain high standards for customer service, employee conduct, equipment care, and overall job quality.
  • Oversee fleet readiness and ensure trucks, equipment, and supplies are available and properly maintained.
  • Conduct leadership meetings, performance reviews, operational audits, and regular market evaluations.
  • Support company growth by improving customer retention, strengthening team performance, and identifying new revenue opportunities.
  • Provide clear and timely updates to executive leadership regarding market performance, risks, staffing needs, and operational challenges.

Performance Expectations

The Executive Area Manager will be expected to deliver measurable results in the following areas:

  • Revenue growth and market profitability
  • Labor and operational cost control
  • Customer satisfaction and complaint reduction
  • On-time job execution
  • Staffing stability and employee retention
  • Manager and team accountability
  • Fleet and equipment readiness
  • Policy and compliance adherence
  • Productivity and overall market efficiency

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive operations leadership experience.
  • Previous experience in an Area Manager, Regional Manager, Director of Operations, General Manager, or similar senior leadership role.
  • Experience overseeing multiple departments, teams, locations, or a high-volume service operation.
  • Strong understanding of staffing, scheduling, logistics, customer service, budgeting, and performance management.
  • Proven ability to improve underperforming operations and produce measurable business results.
  • Experience managing managers and holding leadership teams accountable.
  • Strong decision-making, conflict-resolution, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to analyze operational and financial reports and use data to make business decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond effectively to changing operational demands.
  • Experience in moving, transportation, logistics, home services, field services, warehousing, or a related industry is strongly preferred.
  • Must be comfortable working directly within the Detroit market and maintaining a visible leadership presence.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is:

  • Direct, confident, and highly accountable
  • Comfortable making difficult operational and personnel decisions
  • Experienced in building and developing leadership teams
  • Able to balance customer service with profitability and operational discipline
  • Organized, analytical, and solution-focused
  • Capable of working independently without requiring constant direction
  • Motivated by measurable goals and business growth
  • Prepared to take full ownership of the Detroit market’s performance

Compensation

This is a full-time executive leadership position. Compensation is negotiable and will be based on the candidate’s experience, leadership background, and record of producing measurable operational results.
