Job description

Multi-Site EHS Leadership

  • Lead the EHS function for the Puerto Rico, Hamel, and Maple Plain facilities.
  • Develop and implement a consistent multi-site EHS strategy, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Serve as the organization's subject matter expert for environmental, occupational health, and workplace safety matters.
  • Provide EHS guidance and recommendations to senior management and site leadership.
  • Establish annual EHS objectives, priorities, and improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor EHS performance across all three facilities and identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Conduct periodic visits and assessments of the Minnesota facilities.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA and Puerto Rico OSHA requirements, EPA regulations, and applicable Puerto Rico, Minnesota, federal, and local environmental and safety requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and determine their impact on company operations.
  • Maintain required EHS permits, records, reports, logs, and regulatory documentation.
  • Coordinate regulatory inspections and serve as a primary company representative during EHS-related agency visits.
  • Manage OSHA recordkeeping requirements, including OSHA 300, 300A, and 301 records, as applicable.
  • Ensure required environmental reports and permits are maintained and submitted within established deadlines.
  • Maintain Puerto Rico Aqueduct Authority permit in compliance within the water discharge limits

Develop, implement, maintain, and audit programs including, but not limited to:

Environmental Management

  • Oversee environmental compliance programs for all locations.
  • Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste requirements.
  • Monitor waste generation, storage, labeling, transportation, and disposal practices.
  • Support air, water, stormwater, chemical, and waste-related regulatory requirements, as applicable.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce waste, environmental impact, energy consumption, and associated costs.
  • Maintain environmental permits and required documentation.

Incident Management and Risk Reduction

  • Lead or oversee investigations of workplace injuries, illnesses, near misses, environmental incidents, and property damage events.
  • Perform and facilitate root cause analyses.
  • Develop corrective and preventive actions and ensure timely closure.
  • Analyze incident data and identify recurring trends.
  • Develop proactive programs designed to reduce OSHA recordable incidents, lost-time injuries, workers' compensation exposure, and environmental risk.
  • Conduct job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and workplace inspections.
  • Partner with Engineering and Operations to incorporate EHS considerations into equipment, processes, facility changes, and new projects.

Training and Safety Culture

  • Develop and maintain the company's EHS training program.
  • Identify required training by position and regulatory requirement.
  • Conduct or coordinate employee, supervisor, and management EHS training.
  • Maintain accurate training records.
  • Develop initiatives that increase employee participation and accountability for workplace safety.
  • Lead or support Safety Committee activities at each location.
  • Coach supervisors and managers on their responsibilities for maintaining a safe workplace.
  • Lead the 6s Program in the company

Auditing and Continuous Improvement

  • Establish a formal EHS audit and inspection schedule for all facilities.
  • Conduct internal EHS compliance audits and workplace inspections.
  • Track findings, corrective actions, owners, and completion dates.
  • Develop EHS metrics and dashboards for management review.
  • Benchmark EHS performance and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Support customer, certification, insurance, and regulatory audits involving EHS requirements.

Workers' Compensation and Return-to-Work Support

  • Partner with Human Resources in the management and investigation of workers' compensation cases.
  • Identify corrective actions related to workplace injuries.
  • Support return-to-work and modified-duty programs from an EHS perspective.
  • Analyze injury trends and recommend preventive measures.

Emergency Preparedness

  • Develop and maintain emergency response and business safety procedures.
  • Coordinate emergency drills at each facility.
  • Ensure appropriate emergency equipment, inspections, and employee training are maintained.
  • Coordinate with local emergency response organizations when appropriate.
