Job description

We are seeking a visionary Lead Concept Industrial Designer to translate the Design Director's aesthetic vision into the form language and unified physical identity of our next-generation robotic platforms. You will own early 2D/3D ideation, volumetric packaging, and proportional development-working at high velocity to explore, iterate, and define what our robots look and feel like before handing off to technical surfacing.
Key job responsibilities
- Rapid 3D Form & Volume Exploration: Quickly rough out, test, and iterate on complex multi-part robotic enclosures, articulating fairings, and structural chassis using Rhino, SubD, Alias Concept, or Blender.
- Unified Architecture: Establish a cohesive visual brand language across the entire robot -ensuring seamless aesthetic and proportional transitions between moving parts.
- Dynamic Articulation & Clearances: Explore and resolve how physical panels interact, reveal internal mechanisms, and clear dynamic ranges of motion.
- Design-to-Surfacing Handshake: Deliver organized, proportion-locked concept CAD envelopes (SubD / clean NURBS) with clear design intent, character lines, and highlight priorities to the Technical Surface Designer.
- Cross-Functional Synthesis: Collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering, Motion/Robotics, and Hardware leadership to wrap high-density motor packs, cooling ducts, battery modules, and sensor arrays into an appealing, functional envelope.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of Design/Innovation, research & development, manufacturing, process, industrial engineering, or related experience
- Experience directly working with engineering teams
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, or related field
- Expert-level proficiency in Gravity Sketch, Rhino, Vizcom Ai, SubD modeling, Blender, Plasticity, or Alias Concept with demonstrated ability to sculpt balanced forms in days, not weeks
- Portfolio demonstrating exceptional sense of proportion, visual hierarchy, and unified aesthetic across multi-component devices.
- Intuitive grasp of dynamic kinematic clearances, packaging volumes for motors/electronics, and thermal management considerations
- Proven ability to maintain clean layer organization, logical parting line intent, and deliver clean STEP/mesh files ready for downstream technical surfacing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, or equivalent advanced study
- Experience in consumer robotics (Boston Dynamics, DJI, Skydio), high-end powersports/motorcycle studios (CanAm, Yamaha, Honda R&D, Zero), or automotive concept styling
- Proficiency in generative design tools (Grasshopper/Rhino) and digital sculpting (ZBrush) for organic/biological form references
- Basic understanding of die-cast and composite manufacturing (DFM) realities to keep concept forms grounded in producibility
- Ability to articulate specific highlight curves, curvature expectations, and surface quality intent to technical modelers
- Experience designing for kinematic/articulating systems where covers, cowlings, and fairings move without visual or physical interference
- Background in premium CMF (Color, Material, Finish) development and hardware interaction design
