What is a motor pool manager?

Motor Pool Managers are responsible for overseeing a fleet of vehicles used by an organization. They handle vehicle assignments, maintenance scheduling, record-keeping, and ensure vehicles are safe and available for staff use. Motor Pool Managers also manage budgets, coordinate repairs, and may supervise drivers or mechanics. Their goal is to maximize the efficiency and reliability of the organization’s transportation resources.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a motor pool manager?

To thrive as a Motor Pool Manager, you need expertise in fleet management, vehicle maintenance, logistical coordination, and typically a background in automotive technology or business administration. Familiarity with fleet management software, maintenance tracking systems, and relevant certifications like ASE or fleet management credentials is important.
