POSITION OVERVIEW

A growing heavy civil construction company is seeking a highly skilled Heavy Equipment Operator for its Tulsa-area operation. The primary need is an experienced motor grader operator capable of performing accurate finish grading for dirt, rock, and gravel surfaces in preparation for asphalt and concrete placement.

This is not an entry-level equipment operator position. The company is looking for an experienced operator who understands grade, staking, blue tops, string line, GPS machine control, equipment care, and safe operation around crews and active construction sites.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate a motor grader/blade to perform rough and finish grading to required elevations, slopes, and project specifications.
  • Finish grade dirt, rock, and gravel surfaces in preparation for asphalt paving and concrete placement.
  • Read and work from construction staking, blue tops, string line, plans, and field grade information.
  • Use GPS/machine-control systems; Topcon experience is strongly preferred.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections, check fluids, identify maintenance needs, and handle basic troubleshooting and preventive-maintenance responsibilities.
  • Maintain awareness of ground personnel, equipment traffic, utilities, and changing job-site conditions while operating equipment.
  • Coordinate with superintendents, foremen, grade crews, and other operators to maintain production and quality.
  • Operate dozers and excavators as needed when qualified and assigned.
  • Maintain equipment in a safe, clean, and serviceable condition.
  • Follow company safety requirements and job-site procedures at all times.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Approximately 7-8+ years of strong motor grader operating experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a motor grader/blade across the machine and perform accurate finish-grade work.
  • Strong understanding of construction staking and grade control.
  • Experience working from blue tops and string line.
  • GPS/machine-control experience required; Topcon experience strongly preferred. Trimble experience may also be considered.
  • Broad heavy-equipment knowledge, including routine equipment checks, fluid checks, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Strong safety awareness, including the ability to work safely around ground personnel and other equipment.
  • Experience with dozers and excavators is preferred.
  • OSHA 10 is strongly preferred. Candidates without an OSHA 10 card will be expected to obtain it.
  • No CDL is required.

WORK TYPE

Primary work involves grading and finish grading of dirt, rock, and gravel for heavy civil construction, including preparation for asphalt and concrete.

SCHEDULE & TRAVEL

  • Workdays may run up to approximately 10 hours depending on project needs.
  • Saturday work may be required.
  • Tulsa-based employees are generally home each night.
  • Travel is limited. Per diem is provided when travel is required.
