What is motion graphics design?

Motion graphics design is a creative field that combines graphic design and animation to create moving visual content. Motion graphics designers use tools like Adobe After Effects and Cinema 4D to bring static designs to life, often for video, film, advertising, and digital platforms. Their work can include animated titles, explainer videos, logo animations, and infographics. The goal is to use movement, color, and typography to communicate messages effectively and engage audiences.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a motion graphics designer?

To thrive as a Motion Graphics Designer, you need strong visual storytelling abilities, proficiency in animation principles, and a solid background in graphic design, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio. Mastery of technical tools such as Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, Cinema 4D, and other animation software is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective communication help you deliver compelling visuals and collaborate with clients or teams. These skills are crucial for producing impactful motion graphics that engage audiences and meet project objectives.

Job description

ABOUT FIREFLY AEROSPACE
Firefly Aerospace is a space and defense technology company on a mission to reliably and repeatedly launch, land, and operate space systems from Earth to the Moon and beyond. As the partner of choice for critical space missions, Firefly is the first commercial company to launch a satellite to orbit with 24-hour notice and the first company to achieve a successful Moon landing. Headquartered in north Austin, Texas, Firefly is looking for passionate, hardworking innovators to join our team and help fuel our successful trajectory into space.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an opportunity to shape how technical and operational knowledge gets delivered across Firefly Aerospace through engaging, scalable digital learning experiences. As an eLearning Developer, you will transform approved instructional designs into high-quality interactive courses, videos, and multimedia assets that support employee performance, technical training, and compliance across the organization.
Working closely with the Talent Development team, you'll specialize in the technical production side of learning: building out storyboards into finished, SCORM-compliant courses using modern authoring tools and AI-assisted content workflows. This gives you the room to focus on what you do best: multimedia production, interactive development, and creative execution.
This role is well suited to someone who is technically minded, detail-oriented, and energized by turning complex, sometimes highly technical, subject matter into learning experiences that are clear, accessible, and genuinely engaging.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop Storyline 360 and Rise 360 learning experiences from approved storyboards and instructional design plans.
  • Produce instructional videos, motion graphics, and other multimedia and graphic assets that support technical and compliance training.
  • Apply department branding, accessibility, and quality standards consistently across all deliverables.
  • Conduct self-quality reviews prior to stakeholder review to ensure accuracy, polish, and instructional integrity.
  • Configure, publish, and test SCORM-compliant courses for deployment within the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Implement stakeholder feedback and revisions while preserving the instructional design intent.
  • Leverage generative AI tools to accelerate ideation, scripting, drafting, and production workflows without compromising quality or accuracy.
  • Maintain and refresh existing learning content by auditing materials and updating them as processes, products, or requirements change.
  • Organize project files and documentation according to department SharePoint standards.
  • Collaborate closely with Learning Experience Designers, subject matter experts, technical trainers, and other Talent Development team members throughout the development lifecycle.

QUALIFICATIONS:
A degree or professional certification in Education, Instructional Design, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Multimedia Production, Communications, or a related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of professional experience and demonstrated technical expertise in eLearning development, multimedia production, and digital content creation will also be considered in lieu of formal education.
Required Technical Proficiency
  • Articulate 360 (Storyline 360 and Rise 360)
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Canva or Adobe Illustrator

Preferred Technical Proficiency
  • Adobe After Effects
  • Runway or other AI-assisted video/creative tools
  • Cornerstone LMS or similar enterprise LMS platforms
  • Jira
  • SharePoint

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5+ years of experience developing technical training content, instructional materials, or eLearning solutions, ideally within a manufacturing, engineering, or technical operations environment.
  • Experience editing instructional video and creating motion graphics.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA, Section 508).
  • Proven ability to integrate generative AI tools into content development workflows to improve speed and scalability.
  • Experience working in Agile project environments, including use of tools like Jira.
  • Foundational understanding of adult learning principles.
  • Experience supporting technical, manufacturing, or operations-focused training programs.
  • Familiarity with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) handling requirements, and information security practices within aerospace, defense, or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong project management and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision.

PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENT
Applicants should provide a portfolio demonstrating experience developing digital learning experiences. Portfolios should include examples of interactive eLearning modules, instructional video, motion graphics, or graphic design work that showcase both technical proficiency and strong visual communication skills.
Firefly offers outstanding benefits for our employees, including generous health, dental and vision plans with low plan deductibles, parental leave, educational reimbursement, short term disability, and flexible PTO options.
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
