What You'll Do:
The Mortgage Underwriter II is responsible for evaluating and analyzing mortgage loan requests for all types of Mortgage lending, including conventional, Portfolio, Jumbo, Bond and Government backed loans (FHA, VA, USDA etc.) to ensure they meet all investor guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Will approve or deny applications according to the terms of Royal Credit Union's standards, procedures, regulatory underwriting guidelines, and secondary market requirements while meeting the commitment of delivering high-quality loans that satisfy our member's financial needs while mitigating risk.
Our Commitment To You:
  • Compensation: (candidates with significant related experience may be higher. Pay also depends on candidates location)
    • WI range: $36.20-$41.65 per hour
    • MN range: $41.70-$47.90 per hour

What's Needed For This Position:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent along with a minimum of five years of mortgage lending experience, including extensive mortgage underwriting expertise and the ability to independently evaluate a broad range of loan products while making sound risk-based lending decisions.
  • Advanced knowledge of conventional, portfolio, jumbo, bond, government, and secondary market underwriting guidelines, with a strong understanding of state and federal mortgage lending regulations and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated analytical expertise with the ability to thoroughly review and interpret financial statements, credit reports, tax returns, appraisals, income documentation, and asset information to determine loan eligibility and identify risk factors.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and relationship management skills, including the ability to clearly explain lending decisions, prepare reports and business correspondence, collaborate with stakeholders, and mentor less experienced underwriters.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume workload, prioritize competing deadlines, maintain confidentiality, utilize loan origination systems effectively, exercise sound judgment under pressure, and meet board approval and bonding requirements.
  • Mortgage Underwriting experience to include FHA, DE, VA SAR, and Minnesota Housing Finance Agency loans.
  • Will need to have a Chums ID and VA SAR ID.

Work Schedule/Location:
  • Full-Time hourly position; Hours will generally be Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm with occasional evening and weekend hours, as needed.
  • This position is part of Royal's workplace flexibility program and has the ability to be hybrid remote after approximately 2-4 months of training and proficiency in the position.
  • When not working remote, the office location is flexible at either the Operations Center in Eau Claire, WI or Arden Hills, MN. Location is based on office availability and candidate preference and location.
  • This position requires residency within Royal's office footprint of WI and MN.

Training:
  • Prior to starting a normal work schedule, new Royal team members must attend Foundation Training at our Corporate Center in Eau Claire, WI from 9:00am - 4:30pm on Monday and Tuesday during their first week of employment. Out of town learners will be reimbursed costs related to travel and lodging.
  • Foundation Training covers fundamental information about Royal's culture and core values which sets the stage for team members to be successful within our organization.
