The Mortgage Operations Manager is a critical leadership role that oversees the entire mortgage operations department, including underwriting, processing, and closing. This individual will ensure operational efficiency, compliance with regulatory requirements, and high quality service delivery. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Leadership and Management:
  • Lead and inspire a diverse team of mortgage professionals, fostering a collaborative and high performance culture.
  • Develop and implement operational strategies and best practices to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to review performance metrics, address challenges, and set goals.
  • Provide ongoing training, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between departments to streamline operations and improve customer service.
  • Underwriting Oversight:
  • Ensure thorough and accurate reviews of mortgage applications, adhering to policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Prefund Audit Oversight:     
  • Perform prefunding quality control reviews to ensure loan files meet agency, investor, and regulatory requirements.     
  • Identify documentation, compliance, and underwriting deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions prior to closing.
  • Post-Close Supervision:
  • Conduct post-closing activities, verifying completeness and accuracy of loan packages.
  • Deliver loans to the secondary market within the lock period, ensuring timely mailing of necessary documents.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and implement necessary updates.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits and reviews.
  • Develop and implement training programs on compliance requirements.
  • Customer Service:
  • Ensure exceptional customer service throughout the mortgage process.
  • Address and resolve escalated customer issues and complaints.
  • Implement customer feedback mechanisms to improve the customer experience.

  • Facilitate and maintain relationships with vendors and partners.
  • Manage real estate policy reviews and ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Ensure completion and submission of Freddie Mac Investor renewal certifications.
  • MERs Responsibilities
    • Manage MERS Registrations and Transfers and Paid in full loans.
    • Reconciliation and Audits.
    • Resolve MERs Exceptions.
    • Maintain Policies, procedures and controls.
    • Serve as the internal subject matter expert for MERS requirements, system usage, and best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of mortgage operations, underwriting, processing, closing, and post-closing procedures.
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal, state, and local mortgage regulations.
  • Deep understanding of agency guidelines (including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and USDA) along with correspondent lending requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise in loan purchasing, delivery, and pre-fund and post-closing procedures.

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in mortgage operations, with at least 3-5 years in a management role.

HARD/TECHNICAL SKills/Abilities

  • Proficiency in mortgage software and loan origination systems.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to utilize data analytics for decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement operational strategies and process improvements.
  • Knowledge of risk management and compliance auditing.
