What is mortgage collateral review?

Mortgage collateral review is the process of evaluating the property offered as security for a mortgage loan to ensure it meets the lender’s requirements. This review includes verifying the property’s value, condition, and legal status through appraisals, title reports, and other documentation. The purpose is to assess the risk associated with the property and to confirm that it provides adequate collateral for the loan amount. A thorough collateral review helps lenders minimize the risk of loss in case the borrower defaults.
