Job description

The Cashier – Cash Operations is responsible for providing fast, accurate, and friendly service to casino guests while processing financial transactions including chip redemption, check cashing, credit advances, and jackpot payouts. This position ensures compliance with all internal controls, gaming regulations, and department policies while maintaining accountability of all assigned funds and cage inventory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Functions as a general cashier or specialty banker depending on business needs, experience, and shift assignment.
  • Maintains full accountability for assigned cash drawer and cage bank in accordance with company internal controls and Gaming Commission requirements.
  • Processes transactions including chip redemption, check cashing, jackpot payouts, credit card advances, and other guest-related cash operations.
  • Receives cash, cash equivalents, and personal checks; disburses gaming chips and other currency as required.
  • Redeems and consolidates counter checks; tracks check issuance and maintains secure records of check movement.
  • Maintains inventory and control of chips and coins used for gaming table transactions.
  • Interacts professionally with guests at the front counter, delivering exceptional guest service while adhering to procedures.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may provide guidance or support to other team members.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to remain standing for extended periods and perform repetitive cash-handling tasks.
  • Excellent math skills and accuracy in handling large sums of cash and other financial instruments.
  • Strong attention to detail, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and deliver superior guest service in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and demonstrate a high level of integrity.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Additional coursework in accounting, finance, or business is a plus.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of experience handling cash in a customer service, banking, or retail environment.
  • Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with basic accounting principles and cash handling procedures.
  • Experience using point-of-sale (POS) systems, cash drawers, or currency counters preferred.
  • Prior experience in a regulated environment such as gaming, banking, or hospitality is a plus.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

Must have successfully completed a background check and obtained a gaming license issued by the Morongo Gaming Agency, as required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to read and interpret documents in English, such as instructions, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Must also be able to communicate clearly and effectively with team members, management, and guests.

  • Stationary Work: Frequently remains standing at a cashier station for extended periods during assigned shift; occasional seated work during breaks or administrative tasks.
  • Tool Operation: Regular use of currency counters, coin wrappers, computers, kiosks, calculators, and other standard cashiering tools and security devices.
  • Visual Acuity: Requires sharp near vision and attention to detail to accurately count, verify, and balance cash and coin transactions; must be able to read fine print on forms, screens, and currency.
  • Working Conditions: Works in a high-security cage environment with frequent exposure to noise, constant surveillance, and a smoking environment; may also work on or near the casino floor with exposure to heavy guest traffic and fast-paced operational demands.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment that requires the ability to adapt and perform under pressure. The casino operates with moderate to loud noise levels and is a smoking environment, requiring team members to work comfortably in these conditions.

WORKING HOURS:

Morongo Casino Resort & Spa operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year; therefore, flexibility in scheduling is essential. Team members must be available to work shifts that may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Schedules are subject to change based on business needs and may include overtime, as well as work on both weekdays and weekends.
