Job description

Monkey in the Metal

Head of Sales & Business Development

Are you a relationship builder with a hunter mentality who thrives on opening doors and closing deals? Do you want to lead revenue growth at a unique manufacturing company that's scaling aggressively after a strategic acquisition? Are you the type who sees cross-selling opportunities others miss and knows how to turn conversations into contracts?

Our Head of Sales & Business Development will drive revenue across two complementary product lines: custom architectural millwork/metalwork (MITM) and presentation furniture/audio systems (KSI). This naturally self-motivated leader will expand our footprint with national general contractors in hospitality, multi-family, and commercial construction while simultaneously growing relationships with universities, cultural institutions, and corporate clients. You'll be the first dedicated sales leader, building processes and pipelines that will scale as we grow the team.

About Us: Monkey in the Metal (MITM) is an aggressively growing architectural millwork and metal fabrication company specializing in custom commercial construction and high-end residential projects. In October 2025, we acquired KSI Professional, a 30-year presentation furniture and speaker manufacturer, nearly doubling our revenue and capabilities. We operate from a 12,000 sq ft facility in Baltimore and are executing a 5-year transformation to scale from $2M to $10M+ in revenue.

The first step to join our team is completing a 5-minute survey. Take your time to provide great data: https://go.cultureindex.com/p/uBk2nzX6C27

What Success Looks Like in Year 1:

  • Generate $2M+ in combined MITM + KSI sales
  • Achieve 10% cross-sell rate between existing customer bases
  • Build a qualified pipeline for 2026 and beyond
  • Establish repeatable sales processes and CRM systems
  • Develop relationships that position us for recurring revenue streams

To be successful, you possess:

Required:

  • 3+ years of B2B sales experience in construction, architectural millwork, commercial furniture, and/or AV systems
  • Proven track record of opening new accounts and managing complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles
  • Experience selling to general contractors, architects, designers, project managers, or institutional buyers
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with ability to communicate value at all levels (C-suite to shop floor)
  • Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Self-starter mentality with ability to work independently and manage territory remotely
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for client meetings and site visits

Preferred:

  • Experience selling both custom fabrication AND standardized product lines
  • Knowledge of INNERGY ERP system
  • Understanding of estimating, quoting, and project scoping in manufacturing environments
  • Track record of cross-selling complementary products to existing customers
  • Experience building sales processes from scratch in a growing company

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base Salary: $70,000-$85,000 (based on experience)
  • Tiered Commission Structure:
  • 7% on new customer acquisition (first-time clients)
  • 6% on cross-sell revenue (selling KSI to MITM customers or MITM to KSI customers)
  • 2% on existing customer renewals (repeat business)
  • Total OTE: $170K-$185K when hitting $2M sales target with balanced mix
  • Uncapped commission - the more you sell, the more you earn
  • 401(k) with company matching
  • Paid time off
  • Flexible/hybrid schedule
  • Professional development assistance
  • Opportunity to build and eventually lead a sales team
