Position:Purchasing Agent
Department:Maintenance / Operations
Reports To:Plant Manager
Location:Jackson, MS


Cherokee Brick & Tile Company is seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Purchasing Agent to support our Jackson, MS manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for purchasing maintenance parts, production supplies, raw materials, and equipment while maintaining accurate inventory levels to support efficient plant operations.


The Purchasing Agent will manage the plant storeroom,monitor inventory throughout the year, coordinate annual inventory preparation, process purchase orders, code vendor invoices, and work closely with our Corporate Purchasing and Accounting teams in Macon, Georgia. This role requires someone who enjoys problem-solving, stays organized, and takes ownership of their work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Purchase maintenance parts, raw materials, tools, equipment, and production supplies.
  • Obtain pricing, quotes, availability, and delivery information while ensuring competitive pricing, quality, andtimelydelivery.
  • Maintain accurate storeroom inventory and inventory records.
  • Monitor weekly raw material inventories and coordinate replenishment.
  • Conduct routine inventory counts and prepare for the annual physical inventory.
  • Create purchase orders and receive incoming materials using AS400.
  • Review, code, and enter vendor invoices while assigning the appropriate general ledger accounts.
  • Research parts, obtain vendor quotes, and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Work closely with Maintenance, Production, Corporate Purchasing, and Corporate Accounting to support plant operations.
  • Travel to the Macon corporate location occasionally for training, collaboration, and special projects.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of purchasing and inventory control, required.
  • Manufacturing or industrial experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with AS400 or similar software preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn manufacturing equipment and processes to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.

Schedule

  • Monday-Friday
  • 7:00 AM-4:00 PM
  • Occasional overtime, weekend work, and travel to the Macon corporate location may be required.
