JOB DESCRIPTION
Campus Safety and Security Dispatcher

Shift Schedules: Academic-year position, 40 hours/week, non-exempt. Hours are 6:30 am-3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Supervisors: Director of Safety and Security/School Marshal
Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of two years of experience in a related field. Previous experience in security dispatch, emergency communications, or public safety is highly preferred. Proficiency in radio communication and dispatch-related computer systems is essential. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. Must be able to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality. A criminal background check will be conducted and reviewed as part of the hiring process.
Skills Required: Demonstrated ability to operate multiple software platforms concurrently (e.g., radio systems, camera systems). Skilled in synthesizing diverse and unrelated information and activities to identify potential emergency situations. Capable of responding swiftly, calmly, accurately, and effectively to emergencies of varying scope and severity. Strong attention to detail, including maintaining required records and accurately interpreting procedures and policies. Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
Work Expectations:
  • Monitor the radio system and effectively and appropriately communicate on this radio system.
  • Monitor computer systems, to include an informational database, camera system, and access control system.
  • Ensure the appropriate resources have been committed to the call for service and check on their progress/status.
  • Answers all incoming calls to the Security desk. Alert/escalate safety threats as needed.
  • Elicits the necessary and pertinent information from the caller.
  • Dispatch officers to all requests for assistance; accurately respond to officer requests for information.
  • Maintain a daily log of activities, including pertinent information regarding officer activity and other related information.
  • Assists members of the department with requests for information.
  • Promote and maintain positive community relations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
