As a Mold Design Engineer, your daily tasks usually include designing molds using CAD software, collaborating with project managers and manufacturing teams, and reviewing technical drawings to ensure they meet client specifications and production capabilities. You may also participate in prototype testing, troubleshoot design issues, and make improvements based on feedback from the manufacturing floor. The role requires coordinated efforts with quality assurance, tooling, and production departments to ensure molds are both functional and cost-efficient. This multidisciplinary approach ensures that each project meets rigorous standards for performance and efficiency, making your work both dynamic and impactful.
A Mold Design Engineer is responsible for designing and developing molds used in manufacturing processes, such as injection molding, casting, or thermoforming. They create 2D and 3D CAD models, select appropriate materials, and ensure the molds are optimized for efficiency, durability, and quality. Their role involves collaborating with manufacturing teams, analyzing mold performance, and making improvements to reduce costs and defects. Mold Design Engineers work in industries like automotive, aerospace, consumer goods, and medical devices. Their expertise helps ensure the production of high-quality parts with precise dimensions and minimal waste.
A Mold Design Engineer should have a solid background in mechanical engineering or a related field, with expertise in CAD software and mold manufacturing processes. Familiarity with tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and mold flow analysis software, as well as knowledge of industry standards, is highly beneficial. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are key soft skills in this position. These skills are crucial for designing precise molds, ensuring manufacturability, and collaborating successfully with cross-functional teams.
Job Summary:
Design new products and tools such as plates and gaskets using advanced 3D modeling to enhance the performance, manufacturability, cost, and quality of Tranter industrial heating and cooling products. Telecommuting available up to 3 days per week from home office within commuting distance of the office. International travel up to 5% per year to visit company and vendor locations in Asia and Europe.
